Finalized my lift...just a few questions

So after some research I've decided I'm going to run tundra 5100 bilsteins paired with the toytec/eibach front coils and in the rear toytec superflexs and long travel fj 5100s. Also I'm going to grab a ss panhard bar. I dont want to run a diff drop (Ill take my chances on cvs), but I wanted to know if I needed extended bump stops. I dont have many junkyards around so finding one off an old Jimmy wont work, needed to know if i could purchase any online. Also, what do I need to order in order to assemble the front coils and struts, such as top plates? I know this is all somewhere on the forum but the search feature just isn't user friendly to find this small details. Thanks for your help guys.

I'm not sure how those rear components work together, but one way to check is to put the shocks on, leave the springs out (maybe?) and then (carefully, obviously) lift the axle on each side until it tops out and make sure that the bump stop is stopping it, not the shock. If it bottoms out on the shock it's possible to damage them while wheeling it fairly hard.

Longer travel shocks just naturally have longer compressed lengths. Nothing has changed in the distance between the upper and lower shock mounts at full compression - thus the need for an extended bump stop.

Extended rear bumpstops would help, but you don't NEED them if you don't plan on doing any hard wheeling. That being said, if you do want them I know Toytec sells extended bumpstops.

As far as the front goes, you're going to need to rent a pair of strut-style spring compressors (I rented mine at O'Reilly) to compress the spring enough to get the top plate on. I would order new top plates because they are inexpensive, and you might as well replace them while you're doing everything else.
 
Ok that makes sense so bump stops I can take care of once i have the lift just as long as I'm not pushing the suspension to its limits until. So is there anything else I'm missing when ordering everything?

So do i just order stock 3gen top plates even though I'm running tundra bilsteins?
 
I think you'd be better off with Tundra 5100's in the rear. I'm pretty sure the FJ's are only for 0-2" of lift but I'm no expert on the Superflex.

That would work better than an adjustable/longer panhard rod, since it returns it to level. Which minimizes the slight sideways motion you feel going over road heaves with an angled extended bar.
 
So I'm facing the same questions. I'm doing g a 3" lift, and last night I measured the panhard bar and did the math: When lifted 3" the panhard bar only needs to be 3MM longer. 3MM??

Is it really only 3MM that makes the difference? That seems rather insignificant. Am I wrong?

If you use tundra 5100's for the front you WILL need tundra top hats

You should just use the 4runner specific 5100's for the front and the tundras for the rear as the tundras are good for 1.5-3 inches of lift and bolt right up to the 4runner (As long as you get them from wheelers, where they replace the bottom bushing to the 4runner bushing)

I'm going to run the tundras up front just for the adjustability. So what year tundra 5100s should I be using for the front and the rear. Any links for this stuff would be greatly appreciated

Ok, I'll give you all the RIGHT info because I've been through all this.

You don't need Tundra tophats if your using the Eibach coils. Tundra tophats don't fit our trucks.

I bought those 5100 FJ shocks (also fits the 4th Gen 4runner) and had to send them back. I was replacing Tundra 5100s which I had no problem with but I got a great deal on them. In the process of mounting them, I realized I had almost NO uptravel and I was mounting them with 890 coils. They are probably better suited for some of the 4+" LC coils. If you get rear Tundras 5100 of the shelf you'll have to replace the lower bushing. I think Toytec and some of the other 4X4 places preinstall the lower bushing.

I have the ToyTec bump stops. They do the job the only problem is they utilize the OEM "cushions" which are more like steel. When you hit those stops you know it. I also think the ToyTecs are a little tall for my 890/Tundra 5100 setup but I honestly haven't checked the complete travel which I'm in the process of doing and once I figure it out I'm going to get the bump stops Sonoran Steel sells (just the cushion) which comes from Daystar. There's a few different sizes. I was going to try to modify the ToyTec mount but if that piece is too long in itself, I may just do away with it.

I also would do a Diff drop. If you're anywhere north of 2" it really couldn't hurt. It hasn't hurt my truck.

PS It looks like you have a pretty good lift on it now. At least height wise. What is it?

Okay so for the front I'm looking then eibach coils with 99-06 tundra 5100s and a 4runner top plate, correct?

And for the rear superflex with tundra 5100s???

And in the picture it's my old 4runner, just a cheap rc lift. The one I'm currently lifting now is a 97 5spd that's still on stock suspension. This time I'm trying to do it correctly.

Yes, It should work. The only thing I'm not sure about is those rear coils will have almost 4" of lift unloaded.

Here's 2 Links to compare the extended and collapsed lengths so you can get an idea. The tundra part # has changed with a few minor upgrades but I believe the dimensions are the same. You would need to get the lower eylet bushings replaced if you bought here as I mentioned before

I've got a rear drawer that probably has close to 150-200lbs in it so I'm hoping that'll drop me down to probably 3.5" with plans of a rear bumper in the future. So what year tundra 5100s do I need for the rear if I end up going tundras? And which would be better suited for me then? The tundras or the fjs. I know I've got lots of questions just trying to get it all right

2005 Tundra. They're only $73 on Amazon & $4 for the bushings. But now you're saying you are going to be adding a lot of weight. I wouldn't use the superflex then, go OME (861 I think) or 8 wraps. You really need to read some lift threads & do more research. Only you know what you have planned for the future.

From what I've been reading the superflexs sound about right for the weight I'm looking at. Now granted the bumper isn't right now and if I end up sagging too much at that time I can always look to switch things up. I appreciate the help and info, just trying to learn a bit quicker. I'm reading into everything a bit more as we speak
