Well done! I just got a TRD OR and am really happy with it. You're right. The stock suspension is a little spongy. Makes for good travel on the pavement though. Researching the Old Man Emu lift. Any info on what that would do to the KDSS or other stock suspension features? Enjoy the new ride!

Nice! Congrats!
I know of Mary's Lake. It's right there in Estes Park. It is the other end of the Adams Tunnel that brings water from Grand Lake to the Front Range. There may be a Lake Mary but I have no idea where it is. We are getting out exploring a bit in our new ride. As much as we can since mud season is in full swing around here!

Not much updates lately except I can’t wait for the GOAT armor to go into production so I can get a set.
We did Yankee Hill trail last Sat. Moderate rated, had no problems anywhere except my wife kept saying we won’t be able to go over stuff.

Pretty sure that was the hardest obstacle, had to three wheel it. Would have been easier with a proper spotter.
Right after I got through that I met with those two guys who knew a way around it and came on top from a side trail. They followed me to the end since they didn’t know which way the trail goes. It’s always fun to do it with more people

I like all of your trail photos. I test drove a white TRD Pro today. Now I’m stoked to get it. I’ve been looking at GX460s for awhile and thought I would be disappointed to compare it to a T4R, especially after test driving a Land Cruiser, but I was pleasantly surprised. It drove much smoother than I expected and seemed to have plenty of power.
We’ve always had full size trucks and want to downsize a bit. I’ve always had a love for Toyotas and had a few Tacomas through the years.

Thank you! I honestly wanted a GX460 and was looking into them, but for some reason my wife just couldnt fell in love with it. I almost had her convinced and flew to Utah to pick up one that we really liked but after I started talking with the sales man and got pressured with old tactics like, "when can you come, I have four other people interested" and so on I was like f that and got a new 4R from a friend whos a broker just so we dont have to deal with all the bs of going thru a dealership. To me GX460s are great deals first of all because they offer a ton of options for how much they are worth, they are extremely capable, and in most cases they have been soccer mom trucks that were serviced at the dealer all their life and have extensive service history. Anyway I'm loving the 4Runner but I cant lie, every time I see a nice 460 I wish we had one. BTW I got a Taco too haha, its just a great combo to have both

So I’m not sure how many of you guys know this, but last week was the 2019 FJ Summit in Ouray, CO. I didn’t register us for the event but went anyway. We left Denver Tu after work, spent the night in Salida and drove to Ouray on Wed morning. Funny thing is, I had no idea where the event will be situated but it turned out that the vendors and everything else were about 100 yards down the street from our hotel. Needless to say the experience was amazing. It was our first time in Ouray and we fell in love. Also I’m beyond impressed with the 4Runner. That truck ran thru stuff that I thought was gonna be hard like nothing. It was absolutely effortless. And I mean huge boulders on trails that were rated as hard were no trouble at all. I’m running Falken Wildpeaks in stock size aired down to 20psi and the only modification is the spacer lift in the front, nothing else. Anyway let me get into the pictures because I know most people like looking at those better than reading novels.
Thursday we did Ophir Pass
Cool pic from when I stopped to air up, turned out that my rear passenger tire was on this rock absolutely unintentionally but it shows really nice how the tires “hug” stuff when they are aired down.
The next day we went out with a group from Texas. First trail we ran was Yankee Boy Basin
I was a little worried about this and was sure that I’ll scrape either the front or the rear but with careful placement of the truck it went over without issues
Yankee Boy was snowed in, like a lot of other trails, so we decided to go somewhere else. Next was Mineral Creek which is a short cut to get to the Alpine Loop but is a Hard trail and I wasn’t 100% sure if I should go. Since one of the guys from Texas was also in a stock 5th gen, same tires like mine just bigger I thought okay why not. That trail got intense pretty fast.
I took this pic from another guy but it shows the kind of stuff that was on Mineral Creek. Going over this all you see is sky.
and another spot that had me worried, again went over like it was nothing

This is where we came across the biggest avi debris of the whole trip. Honestly I don’t think the pictures represent the scale of destruction, it was absolutely insane!
By the end of the day we had covered over 40 miles in 6 hours. Needless to say we were all exhausted.
On Saturday I wanted to do less challenging trails so we went to Red Mountain Mining Area as well as Bullion King Lake (where we almost ate shit because of snow but more about that in a little bit)
When we got back we went to look around what the vendors were offering. I didn’t have plans to buy anything but we stopped at the CBI tent and I was checking their skids. The guys seemed like they wanted to sell the set bad so I asked them to make me an offer I can’t refuse. Well they did and now I have a complete set of CBI skids that I need to install.
The one thing that I realized after those three days of wheeling is that the truck doesn’t need anything. I’m for sure not going to spend the over $2k that I was planning on Kings and some other stuff. Other than the skids I’m going to invest in RSG sliders and call it a day. I hope you guys enjoyed it and I wish you all to experience that event or at least Ouray because it really is magical. We’ll be back next year for sure.

Place that was sketchy, the trail was just a little bit wider than the truck and half of it was covered in snow. I started going over because I had to and the rear slid off a little bit. I was able to get out by engaging 4lo and locking the rear diff and had to turn around just after it because even more of the trail was covered up the road and I didn’t want to play stupid games. At that point we decided to call it a day and go back.

BTW on the way back I was able to get 21mpg. That’s for over 340 miles lots of which were mountain climbing with 2 adults, 1 kid, two dogs and truck full of luggage, cooler, the CBI plates and a lot of other random stuff.
