Finally hit 100,000 miles! Reliability- WOW!

I've been the proud owner of this gem of a vehicle since Feb 2005. I finally hit the 100,000 mile while on a trip to Port Aransas, TX. It's been a great 8.5 years with this vehicle and planning to keep it until the wheels fall off.

I got my 1st check engine light last week, P0456. I replaced the gas cap with a geniune Toyota gas cap and cleared the code and am good to go. I've kept up with the maintenance pretty diligently and keep all the records on the Toyota Owner's website. After all the issues I've read on here over the years, it truly makes me believe I have a GEM! Granted, the older things get, the more likely they'll break down, I'm in health care and it's the same thing with the body so don't get old

Only mod I've done is add spidertraxx spacers. I'm not into off-roading but if I plan to add a lift, it would probably be a spacer lift since I like the XREAS ride.

I've been a long time lurker but have always come to this site for very useful information. JA's website has also been very useful.

I did notice that there is a recall notification on the owners website pertaining to the unintended acceleration settlement. I guess I'll have that done on the next oil change.

shit, i bought mine with almost 100k miles and never had a worry. Still not worried about the mileage. Vehicle feels and drives like new.

Well considering people who have Chryslers or similar years that need 2 or 3 transmissions before 100k or other serious work, or Turbo'd BMWs that blow the engine practically by 30k, ect. 100k with no major issues is pretty impressive even in today's world (where I agree with you that 100k is "barely" breaking it in" for the majority of Toyotas as the saying goes.)

my 4runner is the first vehicle ive owned that had less than 100k on it. currently 87k. all my other vehicles were over 135k. i can only personally speak on the 92 chrysler imperial. It had 150k when i bought it and that was one of the best cars ive owned. No major issues and still purred like a kitten when i sold it.

My 1st car was a 1997 chevy cavalier- also bought it new and at 116,000 miles, the wheels were literally coming off

On July 24, 2013, the settlement of claims for Economic Loss arising from allegations of unintended acceleration was approved. As part of this settlement, Toyota will install Smart Stop Technology on certain model and model year vehicles. This feature will cut engine power in case of simultaneous application of both the accelerator and brake pedal at certain speeds and in certain driving conditions.

That's funny, considering that Toyota is #2 in the world with recalls. And guess who's in first place? Not Chrysler.

And Chrysler had a 5-speed automatic in the Grand Cherokee before Toyota had one in the 4Runner...and said transmission has proven to be bulletproof. So bulletproof, in fact, that it's been used behind Jeeps with diesels and Ram 3500 Hemi pickup engines for years.

I'll grant you that BMW makes low quality stuff, but I think most people here know by now that I will not let Chrysler bashing slide on the forums. :hand:

I find that extremely hard to believe, but I will take his word for it. And I predict that in the next 100K he's going to be spending money hand over fist to keep up.

Yeah, he'll be dumping tons of cash after passing 100K, I'm just passing 160K myself and I just noticed an inner axle seal has started to leak. I'm outraged, damn Toyota quality!

That is correct. NO issues. I've had all the maintenance done at the dealership. They've looked over it countless times. I got my 1st check engine light last week. If something breaks or the engine needs replaced, I have no issue replacing it. It's still cheaper than buying a brand new 4runner at $36,000.
