First "mod" complete

Cosmolined the 4R @ 250 miles. RP-342 "Heavy" (Amber)
No pics, sorry. 2 coats.
Used about 14 cans.
All 5 wheels, skidplates/shields came off which were coated both sides, even the fuel tank shield.
This is more of a note for me to report back in the future.

IF I do this again in a few years, I will be sure to invest in a good quality sprayer with all the different tips/wands.
Forward cone, Reverse cone, 360°, 45°, 90° and a few others.

I live in the rust belt, and Toyota is known to rust like crazy, and they would be glad to sell another new vehicle.

TBH, it is damn near impossible to get 100% coverage unless dipped from factory.

I know everyone has their own picks for best rust preventative, but I did my own tests on about 14 choices a few years ago.
I am not a Youtuber, nor do I take pics of stuff like this as there is nothing to see.
Fluid Film, Rust Check, Boe Shield (Recommended via Yota Tech many years ago) and POR 15 were among those I used in my test and they didn't do well at all.
Glass bead blasted steel was coated, and soaked in a bucket of rock salt and water for a few MONTHS with an aerator

Waxoyl (Factory applied on 00 LR D1, dedicated snow vehicle, no rust 21 years later, only touched up small areas. Waxoyl is 2 part system w/ creeper/fogger and hard wax)

Tie: Woolwax & Dominion "No Drip" which rubs off on anything that touches it, which I am not too concerned about as long as it protects.

I am not after annual applications especially with black coatings as they ust hide rust. Once every 3-4 years is my goal.

My results were pretty much on par with this kid, who also used a pressure washer in his test, which I did not. I found this while looking for "new to the market" products since I last did my experiment.

Congrats on the new runner. Agree - salt and brine get everywhere and unless its from the factory its tough to get complete coverage. I think if you care a little bit and do some rust prevention, trying to wash regularly and watching for it youll do better than it would otherwise.

I was tempted to try that WD-40 stuff, but I saw the video above "too late".
I wasn't expecting to get the 4R as I wanted it (no options) so quick.
There was no way I could really test it out except maybe a mix of salt, vinegar and peroxide to speed up oxidation.

I think as long as you watch out for rust and apply on a regular schedule, you will be miles ahead of 90% of people in the rust belt. Even just the 1 application helps out tremendously.

I am in MN and apply woolwax annually. Pretty much everywhere including inside doors, tailgate, hinges, bolts, etc. It is a mess underneath every winter lol but I hardly have any rust.

If you are up for it, remove your rear bumper and get the support underneath. I found out this summer that it was getting pretty bad.

Promptly cleaned it up and woolwaxed the crap out of it. Will be taking off that bumper every few years and spraying that as well now.

Yea the hitch mounting nowadays on vehicles are not very ideal lol... I always sprayed inside the frame and everywhere I could as well but still ended up with rust on top there.

It is honestly not that bad to take the bumper off - just some bolts in the back, underneath, and mud flap area then pull off. Below is a good video showing how.

Probably not too big of a deal if you do not want to do it quite yet, but just wanted to give a heads up! That photo was taken when my truck was 7 years old and I never took the bumper off before that.

I will hopefully get it off the next time I work on it which should be to add a heated LED bar, and two 6" yeller fogs. :bounce:
I am not waiting to find out the hard way about ice build-up on the stock LED headlights. :nono::nono::nono:

Hope you took down the factory skids, I couldn't believe how bad my front diffs looked after taking down my stock skids after 2 years of ownership. It's all surface rust, but still :twitch:

Indeed I did. Even the shield for the fuel tank and the spare came off/down.
T'was the only way to get proper access to more areas to spray.
