Hey every one just a quick post to let every one know I just bought a 4 runner
1992 SR6 stock as a rock and gun metal grey

My aim would be to eventually build it into a off-road beast but Im still getting to know her before deciding on mods, atm im looking at tires but im stuck with 31" unless i lift it.

Iv owned it for about 3 weeks and i have only had one problem with it, it has a rough idol i belive to be caused by a vaccume leak, iv changed all the leads, plugs filters and oils. but it vibrates and chuggs while idoling
Ill up load some pix of her shortly but if anyone has any ideas on what the problem could be I am happy to update this post with any required information about it, Its not only my first 4runner its my first car and i dont really know where to start or what to tell you guys to get help so feel free to slam information into my brain on the "what to and not to do" with 4 runners :)

A few sugestions my freinds made, low trans fluid, Injector cleaner needed,a bent valve, vaccume leak(main air hose was a home fix job by last owner) Luckliy it was cheap to buy and only my first car) other then that its a V6 auto with 220kms on the clock and slight oil leak i may have caused climbing a hill i shouldnt have climbed..

Is the engine ment to stall out if i remove the oil cap while its running?

Any way sorry about the confusing post im at work and have to rush, feel free to ask me any thing about it.

Thanks guys Passive

HALLELUJAH. Thank you so much for not making your first post be "how do I buy a 10" lift kit?" :D. Welcome to the board. Now make with the pics, stat.

Try a Seafoam treatment to help that shudder. I used it for the first time a week ago and it helped my new beast a lot.

Hey thanks for the info iv never heard of seafoam before and after a quick google I realised why they don't sell it in Australia yet lol, but ill read some more and see if its worth getting it sent over,

And I'm fairly sure lifting my truck before it idols properly is redundant but I have see a lot of those posts lol.

Thanks for the welcome I'm sure ill be posting a lot in the coming months and look forward to sharing my runners progress with the forum 2012-09-27_13-50-38.jpg

Welcome! There is lots of good information here if you look around. You will have fun with that rig.

We've got a couple Aussies on board, it's good to have more. I think you guys are under-represented around here, considering how popular the Yotas are down there. Hope you stick around!

Yeah it seems like most aussies i know are running a yota of some kind, and with good reason.

I cant wait to have my engine sorted and my mud tires on, but all in good time i guess.

Its looking more and more like a main seal tho :(... found oil splatters in the air PVC hose between the filter and the roc. cover, and oil running down the fire wall on to the gear box..and the oil pressure was bouncing from low to high pretty bad today.. gotta clean it all and have a proper look when i have some time off work, Wish i knew what i was looking for down there.

Any one know of any thing i should keep my eye out for while looking?
any thing that would tell me what is causing a leak like this?

Cheers

Interesting you say that - I've got a rear main that I know for sure is bad, and my oil pressure fluctuates too. I was thinking about kicking off a thread for it, I guess now's as good a time as any. :)

Thats a great idea, i might take a few pics after a full clean underneath from the gear box up. even some before and after the clean, and compare with others if you think that can help.

Link me if you get it started :)

great news

The good news is my truck runs like new again, no smoke no extra noises and at thaw first set of lights I stopped at I had to check it was still running it was so quiet.

3 hours of grease grim mud and clay, revealed the leak was a rocket cover leak not worthy of my time just yet the problem was the hill climb I did last weekend caused excessive oil and dirty fuel to be sucked in to the heads and fouled 4 of 6 plugges and 2 leads werent connecting properly

New plugged and a solid clean, a new fuel filter and a little bit of tinkering around with my mechanicly minded friend was all it needed.

So now my trucks running great and iv learnt a lot about it inside and out

Bad news the leak is still there because the gasket is on order atm but the previous owner used gasket glu instead of getting a new one so that'd a job for next weekend..

Cheers and next post should be photos and a garage post

Thanks for the information and I look forward to keeping you guys posted about any thing 4runner related..

Ps this was typed on my phone in a rush so ill fix anything needing spell check tonight lol
