Fishing Rod storage solution

So I live up here in Flagstaff Arizona where the lakes are beautiful and the fish are big and very hungry. I love to go fishing but I always have an OCD struggle trying to find a very good way to arrange my rods for transport.... then BAM it hit me. Why not build a system in which my rods can be safely stored and mounted next to the roof rack. After lots of research and lots of trial and error, I finally came up with a system that fits my needs and one I can also use for storing lots of other things. The Dry Tube Cargo System came to life and it is so awesome!! It is 80 inches long and the inside of the tube is 4 inches in diameter. The rear cap is sealed and glued and definitely not going anywhere and the front cap is threaded for easy access. The rear door clears easily and the mounts are rock solid to my roof rack. I could honestly fit a lot of things in here along with my fishing rods and I am greatly considering a twin on the other side to even it out. Enjoy the few pictures even though they are sideways... I did like you, built a tube that can fit on my Yakima Rack, The problem I had with screw caps was the inability to lock them, like you I am OCD but about theft! So I went with 6 inch PVC about 5.5 feet since my rods were mostly two piece and for the ends, I bought the metal fittings for making a conduit carrier which came with u bolts for mounting on my rack. I covered the tube with Camo Shelf liner, that was horrible mistake, about three weeks of sun and it faded badly and was a pain to remove. I finally got it off along with the sticky adhesive residue and am going to prime and paint it. Besides the rods, it holds trap poles, hiking poles and other long items I would rather not have turn into flying spears in the SUV! link to a pic on my flickr page.

I need to make one of these when I head back up to flag. Last year was full of fishing trips to lake mary with 4 guys crammed around 4 poles in a WRX

I used to have a similar set up with a rod holder retro fitted to the roof, then I went with a system kind of like this.

Only difference is the back does not droop and for the front I use a laundry bar thing. It limits the vertical storage inside by a couple inches in the back, but it keep the rods inside the vehicle away from dust, dirt, water, grime, and is just another obstacle to theft.

None of this stuff worked for one reason or another.
Looks like this new product on the market that was designed specifically for that will finally sole all the shortcomings of these solutions mentioned earlier.

I Like It!

I use to haul my rods stuffed in my boat handles and that worked fine even on a long haul. Since our recent move, I now Rack store the boat a half hour south and don’t want to leave my rods on it unattended. This looks like a good alternative!
