Fitment Concerns with Stock and Lifted Setup for 17x8.5 (-10mm) vs 17.9 (-38mm)

Looking to get a set of SCS F5s for my LR ORP. They have a 17x8.5 (-10mm) and 17x9 (-38mm).

Currently, I'm bone stock and waiting for my Kings EXT for a target of 3" lift. I'm also planning on running my stock tires until they're worn and size up to 315/70/17 (maybe 305).

Do you see any issues running 100% bone stock tires/suspension? Do you see any issues with my target set up?

I get running 315s will require both cutting and hammering of the wheel well area, as well as some regearing.

I've done some searching and wasn't able to find anything for my specific offset. Appreciate your feedback.

I guess it comes down to stance/poke, if you want a rim with a bigger lip or not.

I've run both the -10 and now run the -38 offset.

If you gonna run 34's or 35's, you gonna have to do cutting, BMC, pinch weld, and extended bump stops regardless of what offset u choose. The -10 will fit easier, but thats a moot point....because you still gotta put in work.

So it just comes down to what stance you prefer.

I'd go with the -38 all day everyday. The f5 in -38 is my forever wheel. Great combination of weight, width, lip, and poke.

FYI, you won't be fitting 34 or 35's with a bone stock suspension.

Thanks stranger. Totally understand the 34" or 35" wouldn't fit w/o a ton of modification including lift.

But would the -38mm fit w/ stock suspension and stock tires (265/70/17)? I don't see why not, but wanted to confirm before dumping $1,200.

The intent here is to nab the wheels now, run them on stock tires until I get my suspension and tires, and size up together.

a BMC chop costs 2 sawzall blades.

Why are you in a hurry to put the new wheels on before having a lift and tires plus BMC and supporting parts to go with it all?

Buy all the parts and sit on them until you have everything.

I had the same question when I saw that the wheels were in stock. Ultimately it sounded like rubbing would be an issue. A wider wheel with a negative offset doesnt sound like it's usually plug and play for these vehicles. YMMV

If i was you, i'd get the rims, but i would have money saved up for a BMC just in case.

This will likely be the path. I'm fortunate to have access to a saw, raw metal, and a welder. Could easily do a nice clean chomp, plate, and paint.

Trying to set my expectations.

I'm really liking the rims, and eager to get them!

Even if I initially there's no rubbing, I'd bet at full lock and/or full articulation at stock suspension and no wheel well work, there'll be rubbing. But perhaps day to day there won't be.

Looking for feedback from the forum if anyone who's had this kind of setup and what their rubbing experience was, if any.

I just put SCS Gen 5's (17x8.5 -10) with stock tire size on my rig and I have 1.25" lift in the front and the only place I rubbed, at full lock, was the bottom corner of the bumper.

I followed this guide 5th Gen 4Runner Bumper Wheel Well Trimming and Cutting - Step by Step and my problem was solved.

To answer your question, with that setup you want to run you will more than likely rub somewhere with your stock tires and no lift.

Stock tires at -38 will rub a bit. I run TRD Pro wheels and a 1.25" spacer (equivalent to a -28 offset) and when I had stock size tires, it rubbed in the front and rear. Front fender liner mod and a bit of trimming on the front bumper cover and removing the mud flap was enough to stop the rubbing for me. I didn't need a BMC until I moved to 285s. 35s required a *lot* of work.
