Fix Bumpers prior to Sale?

I'm probably going to end up selling my 4runner in the next 18 months. It has damage on both bumpers. Is it worth spending $1500 to get them replaced? It's about 230k miles, lift/skids/sliders/front runner rack.

It'll also need tires soon....is it better for me to do those prior to sale as well?

The front isn’t terrible…I think I could get most of it if I trimmed the bumper.

The back is pretty bad though. I’ve thought about popping it out, but the paint is cracked so it would still be rough.

It’s pretty clean otherwise. A few other minor dings/scrapes.

I would just pop out the dents and touch up the paint. You’re not going to get $1,500 more for your 4Runner if you fix the bumpers. (A ~15 year old vehicle isn’t expected to have perfect bumpers.)

I wouldn't replace the tires, either, especially if they’re not too old (date code). The buyer might not even want/like the tires you buy. New tires will also hide any odd wear issues you might have had on the old tires. I have always been suspicious of a used car for sale with brand new tires (0 miles) on it. Like the bumpers, if you spend $700 on new tires, you’re not going to get $700 more for your 4Runner.

I agree with the above posters. But replied to add $0.02, For the front damage if popping them back out from behind does not work you might do a variation on the popular viper cut that the 5th gen and Tacoma owners have been doing. This would remove most of the visible damage. For the rear you might start a search for your local junk yards /pull-a-part places and see if you can score a replacement.

Your location Shows KS, If you are passing through Co this summer there is a guy down the hill from me west of Castle Rock parting out a bunch of 4th gens, after closing up his Toyota shop. Last time I was down his way he had a white Limited late model 4th gen much like yours, Don't recall the status of the rear bumper on it but he was selling bumper covers for like $200-$300 depending on condition.

You might also post a wanted / trade ad here in the 4th Gen for sale forum in case anyone is putting on an aftermarket overland bumper.
