Will the ones made by Dee Zee fit? I've read a few posts on here talking about them, just want someone to chime in to tell me they'll fit for sure before buying.

Saw another thread that said you have to drill. May look into it. Trying to think of options for hanging my trasharoo until I get the rear bumper with swing out.

Here's all I really found, but I haven't found anyone who's actually done it. This one says you have to drill the hatch and reinforce it, which personally I'm not all that adverse to doing.

I'd still like to actually see one on a 4th gen 4runner. I don't care if my rear window will open or not. I actually prefer it closed most of the time. I'm wondering if it will clear the fairing.

The ladder arrived today and it's unlikely it will work on a 4th gen without a lot of fabrication.
- The bottom mounting bracket is too deep and kits the bumper when closed.
- The top mounting bracket is too tall and hits the rear portion of the roof when the rear door is open.
- There is also a slight twist to the ladder with curved rungs to match the body panels of the FJC. Even if you could fab some new brackets or modify the existing ones, it won't match the shape of the 4Runner door.

Well that's lame. I mean, are talking new brackets or is it something maybe you could shim with some washers just to gain clearance?

New brackets. There is little clearance between the door and the roof and at the bottom by the bumper. I'm sure new brackets could be made with some plate and a press brake to clear it, but it'll likely be false economy. If there was more of a price difference between this rack and the Gobi 4Runner rack, I'd give it a shot. At those prices, I can't justify the time/effort.
It looks like I'm back to the Gobi if they will make a non-spoiler version for me. Climbing on and off my rack this past weekend reminded me that I need to buy a ladder. Either that or I need to finally start working on the swing out for a place to step!

What if I chop the arms down on both ends to bring in the brackets to fit the 4Runner door and it's needed clearance and weld them back on ...I have no problem doing that for you if it will work...l
Hold the ladder up to the rear of your 4Runner and snap some pics of it open and shut showing the issues so we have a visual ...

I wouldn't say I have the know how. Every now and then I cut some metal, weld some stuff together, and somehow I managed to avoid doing any permanent damage to myself or vehicles or blow my house up. LOL! Now, once I get a plasma cutter, then I'll be able to make some cool shit.
I certainly appreciate your offer! Since you put it out there, I guarantee I'll find a way to take you up on it. :cheers:

Yeah I've been eyeballing a couple plasma cutters and juggling the idea of dropping the dough for one..but I always seem to break something on my rig which puts and end to that idea and funds. Lol
It was nice always having access to one at work ..

Same here. It's a purchase that keeps getting pushed back. It would change the type of projects I can do for both my 4Runner and my house. Now it has to wait on other purchases I need to make, including a new list from last weekend with you guys!

Did you ever end up contacting Gobi to see if they would make you one? I’m currently looking at ladders so I have easier access to the basket I’m going to be purchasing next week, but have only found ones that are made for our rigs with the spoiler.

I made a few attempts to contact Gobi, but they never returned my calls. I took that as a sign and gave up.
