FJ Trail Team suspension fit?

XREAS is leaking on a new 2007 sport that I bought. I was searching for used FJ coils to add with new 5100 bilsteins.

I found an offer for parts off of a 2010 FJ Trail Teams 4x4 A/T with 12k miles on them. Sounds like he'll offer me any/all of the components (rear springs, front springs, 5100s, or everything)

Thoughts? Is the trail team going to be super stiff/rough for on-road driving (95% of what i'll be doing)? Will the 5100s fit? I know when I search for Bilsteins for 4runner they are different part number than for FJ.

Are you sure they are 5100's? The TT FJ does come with factory Bilsteins, however, they are not 5100's, rather they are Toyota spec factory Bilsteins. They are much better than the stock shocks but not quite on par with 5100's. Just something to think about. The same shocks came standard on my TE and are pretty decent, however, the 5100's on a friends truck are noticeably better. I cant comment on the springs other than most here prefer the ride of the FJ springs over stock. Good luck.

Any year FJ coils will fit the 4Runner. Only 2007-2009 shocks will fit, though, so you'd have to buy the 5100's separately. If the coils are in good shape and you can get them for a good price I say go for it. They should be a little stiffer than the stock 4Runner spring but not harsh.

+1, but with a little work the 2010+ shocks will work. You have to grind down the lower mount on the front and enlarge the hole for the upper stem on the rear (based on what I've read, I haven't done this personally).

The guy is offering front and rear springs, or the complete front coilovers and rear shocks/springs. I'm assuming I can get the springs only and add 5100s, correct? I'm a little confused by the term 'coilover' vs 'front springs'. My understanding is the coilover is just the spring and strut combined, so if I get the 4runner 5100s and the FJ front and rear springs I can take it to the shop and have them install it all. Yes?

ARK_SWAMP_RIDER... your reputation proceeds you... and you crack me up I haven't wrenched on a car since I tried to do my own brake (pads, calipers, rotors) in college about 20 years ago. It was a nightmare of my own making.

I still have to research the suspension thread more. I was going to set my fronts at .8" and just add the fj springs and shocks to the rear. But now i'm thinking about possibly a tad more lift.

Yes, you can purchase 5100's and use the FJC coils with them. Take them to a reputable shop to have them installed or do it yourself, it's not very hard. It does help if you have some air tools and a buddy to assist you. You will take away most of the factory rake if you set it at .85" but most have to add a spacer to the rear if you want to go to 1.75" on the Billie's. I have a '05 V8 and my first take at the 5100's I did 1.75" (2nd notch) and it was almost perfectly level, about .5" rake. Some angles made it look nose high, just a thought. I have it at the top setting now with lift coils in the rear.

Are there any threads/tutorials on the installation of 2011 FJ bilsteins on a 4th gen 4R? I found a great deal on low mileage stock 2011 FJ setup, but Im worried the shocks will be difficult to adapt. Also, do you know what kind of a lift that will net?
