Flatboys rear turbo build




Bought this from Summit Racing



pan had a bit of stuff in it but I thought it to be ok given it had never been off and or flushed.(49,000miles)





I didn't do the shift kit myself, she went into a local tranny shop. Set up for street, nothing too radical but made a Huge difference. At 5psi I didn't notice too much tranny waiting to shift but at 9psi it took forever and knew the tranny wouldn't be happy for too long. 1st to 2nd gear hits a lot harder and rpm's drop only 300 ish(hard to get on it big time with all the snow and ice)

This kit I believe has 3 spring settings - offroad, street, and hot rod. IMO a good option for not having to send your valve body out.

Awesome work! Love the clean welds and fabrication. Looks like a quality job from start to finish.

Turbo 4 bangers are what I learned to work on initially so it's great to see someone playing around with them again.

Do you not need engine management software with this small of a set-up? I would have thought the ecu wouldn't enjoy the new set-up and you'd have to run a megasquirt or standalone type system.

Also how would do you do any data logging with the wideband? Or are you just getting your A/F numbers from the gauge as you drive?

Thanks for the compliments, I also built a 2rz that's in my 2000 Tacoma - way way fun for a mini truck.

The stock ecu fattens it up to about 13.2 ish with no help, so low boost is ok imo, plus the old trd superchargers boosted 4 psi with no mgmnt(though it did knock a bit under load and low rpm). I have a snow meth kit at 75% meth that richens it up no problem.

I'm not worry about data logging right now though the wideband can do it but thats low on the list, with the boost gauge I can see when its coming on and feel whats its doing.

I had been searching for a few years when I saw this on e-bay. The company posting it for sale was a site I was keeping my eyes on for the large quantity on low mileage vehicles. I waited till it came off and contacted them directly(405motors).

I've seen a few threads/posts on these guys(405motors) that their stuff is was over priced and such, but they didn't force me to buy it, it was what I wanted. A 1999 or 2000 with multimode tranny, diff lock.... is what I was holding out for and I got what I got, plus up here in Oil Alberta those girls fetch a pretty penny even with mega miles. I don't regret anything with the purchase. In some eyes I paid too much but it is what it is and I got Exactly what I wanted.

jesus! you could of bought a V8 4runner for that and built it up, or paid someone to swap in a V8 into a 3rd gen... shit you could of bought any 3rd gen and had it completely rebuilt and modded for that price...
