Hey guys, long time 4Runner fan and a lurker for about a month. Had my fair share of different rides but decided to pick up a 4Runner. 2006 Limited V8.
I was broke in to 4Runner at an early age. Mom had an '88 bought brand new, dad hit a deer, rolled it 5 times and totaled. She then picked up a '90, 5 spd 4banger and at 8 years old I learned how to drive a manual.
She drove that on the same tranny and motor for 303,000 miles until dad was taking mom to the ER and a deer ran into the side of it. So then she got an '02 and drove it for 260K til the rear end went out on it. Last year she ordered a 2010 Limited and had to wait a bit b/c of the Tsunami in Japan, but loves it, as do I.
So I missed having a 4X4 and started looking at 4Runners, 1st gen Taco's, and Wrangler Rubicons. Taco's were out due to not finding any on dealer lots b/c of the buyback (frame rust). Wranglers were out b/c I didn't feel I was getting my money worth for what I would be using it for. So I narrowed it down to 4Runners. Didn't want a 3rd gen b/c I couldn't stand how terrible mom's drove in the crosswind. Couldn't afford a 5th gen, so I narrowed it down to 4th gens. The one generation my mother had yet to own and the one generation I had never ridden in or driven.
Found a mica '06 one owner all records w/ 99K on the odo. Plus I really wanted the V8. Ex gf had the 470 w/ the V8 and I loved that motor and vehicle. Plus the only generation a V8 was offered for the 4Runners, it was my calling.
Not too many big plans for this right now. I live in downtown ****cago (yes it's spelled right), but grew up on a farm in central Illinois. Not too many places to wheel, but if you do, it's mud and Lord knows I hate mud. So I figure I'll go with (eventually) an OME lift, some Duratracs, sliders, and wheel spacers and call it a day.
I work for the Bureau of Prisons and would eventually like to transfer out to Arizona or Colorado....polar opposites I know, but both of those places really appeal to me. If that happened I would probably go ahead and open the wallet for bumpers and the likes, but not needed where I live and how I wheel right now.
Now onto some....wait for it.....STOCK 4runner pics lol, OMG you guys have never seen those before.
It's been raining non stop here in the city so no good pics as of yet.
