Frame rust behind sliders?

Hi all, does anyone know if rust popping up on the frame where it meets with sliders is pretty common?

Just saw a youtube vid with Ruston from one of the overlanding channels (I think he's a frequent poster here) showed how bad the rust was behind his sliders on the frame.

I've been wanting (lightweight) sliders for awhile now, but this would make it a dealbreaker for me.

If it's common, any preventative steps?

That is surface rust. 0 to worry about, but if you are anal it won't hurt to prep with a thick chassis paint. You could also create an air tight seal with some RTV/gasket maker....

Ive only had mine on for a month or so, but considering it only took about an hour to install (RSG bolt-on) I don't see why you couldn't pull them off once - twice a year, depending on your driving conditions, and clean them up as needed.

Totally common from everything I've seen, severity dependent on how they treat the roads where you are. Mine were on for about a year (through one winter) and I've definitely got some upkeep to do. I've currently got mine off awaiting a spring cleaning and rattle canning, and while they're off I'm going to be hitting the frame and undercarriage with some Eastwood / POR15 / Fluid Film.

The rust and upkeep sucks, but best I can tell this is just the price of doing business.

Also worried about this. I sprayed plastidip on the frame and all around the edges after they were bolted on. Hopefully that Keeps the majority of the water out.

Plastidip on a frame? Wouldn't that hold moisture in?
