FrankenRunner?

Please help me identify this Runner! Just bought this down in Costa Rica and the guy says it's a 92 or 93 but is not sure. I have searched high and low to try and identify which make/model and from what country to no avail. Here are the photos:

The 'unusual' things are the weird key locks and the clinometer. The mileage and speedometer are in KM and KM/H. Also, not pictured is a 4 cylinder gasoline engine and manual hubs.

Any ideas out there as to the year country of origin would be awesome. I have looked around the vehicle (doors, engine bay, etc) for info but nothing.

fyi- exact engine is 22R (not 22RE).

OEM locks got replaced with the one in the pic. for security reasons, harder to tamper with, remember the original locks at some point can be unlocked with any toyota key, and the clinometer is a second gen. clinometer which is very rare unlike the first gen. clinometer. Country of origin who knows.

Cool, thanks Maco33. I'm guessing probably a Canadian mode since it's in Kilometers. Not really that important I guess, just curious more than anything. A newbie question, the 4wd system on these is just a standard 4wd system correct? I guess what I mean is, is the 4wd system in the 2nd gen the same as the 3rd gen minus the elocker option?

The 2nd Gen used a standard 2-speed T-case (4-HI and 4-LO) which divided the power evenly between front and rear. No factory locker was available on those, and no center diff for continuous use whether on wet or dry pavement--you need to disengage 4WD on dry roads or risk binding up the T-case.

Well, the grill is the 1993+ style and in the US, the 22R was discontinued in 1990 or 91.

Also, there is no rear tire carrier on the back, so in the US that makes it a later year.

I love that tailgate and light setup with the reverse not in the middle. The first thing I noticed when I saw my first 2nd gen was that I didn't like the reverse lights in the middle.

Great, thanks guys. That's why I called it the frankenrunner...seems it has some features of a 92 or 93 and some that are older than that. In any case she's an awesome little rig for down here...where cars take a beating. Even at 20 years old the steering, engine, etc are on point. Where we live there are no paved roads and the roads are shit. Hopefully she'll keep us mobile for awhile!
