Frickin Thieves got me

This evening I was dropped off at the "Park & Ride". I hopped in and started my 4R up and I thought to myself, "Wow! That sounds like a V-8!" The problem is that I drive a V-6.

I've read enough of the forums and guessed what the problem was even before I looked at the exhaust. I was right... the cat canverter was gone. Nice clean cuts to.

I walked over to the gas station and asked to borrow their phone to call the local police. The guy behind the counter told me that I was the second person to report this happening today.

It's now at the stealership. They'll be working on it in the morning. There is one good thing that came out of it... Monday is a Federal Holiday. I'm off until Tuesday! Yeah... I know. But I need to find a silver lining.

So slap on that under armor and make it harder for those bastages. They had best pray that I never find out who they are. A little radiator coolant goes a long way when mixed with a car battery, 2 steel pads and a bucket of water.

yeah i just had my Warn 9.5ti ripped off in my carport behind a locked gate at my house on monday... took the damn thing right off the mobile mount(and i had special bolts holding it on and red loctited)... not sure what else they got, i cant find the spare set of keys to our other vehicles and the house...

The adjuster will be at the stealership in the morning. I have a $500 deductable. Guy at the shop said around $2,200.00 to get it fixed.

Seems there has been a rash of these thefts in Rhonert Park, Petaluma and Santa Rosa.

I just want to find the schmuck that is buying from these guys. I've got the battery and bucket along with a quiet shed that nobody will hear the screams from. Just need a couple brillo pads and a name now...

Don't stress out my friend,i've been there my self and i know how you feel.these guys will get a major pay back i guarantee you that,payback is a BIATCH when it comes around and get them in the ass.they are not getting rich from all these stolen cat converter you can research online to see how much they are worth.just let it out and move on.

Be careful where you park and watch your runner everybody! I work at a stealership south of you in walnut creek. In the past 2 weeks I have sold 8 cats, 4 from 4runners, 2 tacomas, and 2 highlanders. For 2 people it had been the 3rd time on thiers. And they were paying out of pocket!!! One guy at a muffler shop suggested taking a thick cable and wrapping it from manifold down to the exhaust and tacking it all along the way.

No, the adjuster will quote well below the $2200 the dealer charges. Assuming it doesn't kill your insurance rate, the only way to get full price is to have the insurance pay the shop directly, or contest the adjusters estimate, which might involve suing your insurance company. It is easier to just let the stealership fix it and make you insurance pay the exorbitant price directly.

Seems like a lot of these stolen cats I've read about are primarily on the West Coast. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I don't hear much about it around here (knock on wood).

Man, this is serious.... I've been to San Fernando Valley, Santa Rosa CC and Rohnert park, Pateluma in my runner several times and parked on the street. I should be happy that no SOB was able to locate my truck.....

Now I am in Louisiana and we don't worry about Cats..... I've seen cars running with blue smoke! But I should inform my friend in Sacramento to park his 01 4runner in his eyes distance.

I had my catalytic converter stolen from right underneath my nose. It was at the parking lot of my work! This was about 3 years ago. They stole the OEM converter, and I got a aftermarket one installed. Total cost was about $400+.

Anyways, I hope that if thieves ever happen to get beneath my 4runner, I hope they notice the welds and the fact that it's aftermarket. And those precious metals are in far less quantities on the aftermarkets.

I need a dealership.

I would prefer to have my truck fixed with OE parts.

They didn't just cut out the cat, when they tore it out they damaged the wiring harnes the O2 sensors are plugged into.

So to fix it OE style I need:

Cat
Pipe before cat
Pipe after cat (has muffler on it)
both O2 sensors
Parts and labor to fix the harness

there are a lot of aftermarket cats online for anywhere from $190-$400. But they say they don't sell to CA. I'm thinking of having it shipped to a friend out of state who can then mail it to me. Does anyone know if this can work? Are they not shipping to CA because the cat won't clean the exhaust enough for CA emission standards? Or is there another reason?
