Front ABS O-ring Sealing

I removed the ABS sensor from the front steering knuckle as part of the procedure to replace the wheel bearing. When removed I picked out an old o-ring which I expected but then there was another plastic piece in the hole. Was this part of the ABS sensor meant to retain the o-ring or something else? What should I do to keep the sensor properly sealed now?

That looks like what happened to me. I have rust, and the sensor was stuck pretty good. That extra piece of plastic is broken off the sensor body, and stayed behind in the mounting hole. I removed it, cleaned up the hole and mount surface, and replaced with an Ebay used ABS sensor (cost me around $25)
