Front Diff Breather Leaking?

I was doing some maintenance on my front end tonight and saw that my upper control arm through bolt was coated in oil. Popped the hood to see where it was coming from and this is what I saw. Is this an abnormal build up around the front diff-breather? Also there is another breather or plug or something next to it and I am not sure what that is. Anyone have experience with this?

The top pic shows the oil on the through bolt and in the center of the bottom pic you can see the build up around the breather and whatever is next to it.

Maybe the front diff was too full and it was trying to expel the extra fluid?

I never knew what the other breather was for either...never got around to tracing it back to its origin.

There's only 1 breather on front diff. Other lines are vacuum

Isn't the other breather for the trans or transfer case?
Mine only has one breather in that position.

My 99 and 2000 have 2 breathers. One is for the dif. The other is for the actuator motor. The rear is the same if you have a rear dif locker.

Thanks for the input. Will clean it up when I can find the time. Both front and rear breathers seem to be swiveling fine. Will probably just replace them when I get the chance to.

The biggest issue here is if the breather(s) become blocked/clogged, etc. and cease to 'breath'. I'd clean those oily breathers off to ensure their operation - and maybe check fluid levels if there's been any significant loss.

For the rears I pulled the stock breathers and installed a hose and barbed diff bib to mount the a new breather in the filler cap cavity. The fronts look safe enough where they are mounted.

I'm going to take a good look at my fronts after all this...

Huh, '00 Limited Auto (w/rear e-locker): one breather in front and one in back.

When I have had gear oil puking out the axle breather it's always been condensation that froze in the line. AKA moisture in your gear oil.

My 97 has one breather on the front diff. I know this because I just finished swapping a 98 diff in.

My rear elocker axle has 2 breathers. One for the elocker actuator and one for the axle housing. If you have a elocker axle. Look close at the harness back there. There is a breather running along the wires.

I will use a T To tie in the elocker breather with axle housing and extend it to the gas lid.

Front has two breathers on 01/02, due to the electric ADD actuator instead of vacuum actuator - one for diff, one for ADD motor. Notice no VSVs in the first post...

One for the elocker actuator ... If you have a elocker axle. Look close at the harness back there. There is a breather running along the wires.

Have the same issue with the leak. No mechanical issues and still have not been able to find a diagram in any maintenance manual.
Are we saying this is not a big deal or should I be concerned?

Any one find a part number for the breather? Can't seem to figure it out.

Mine's clogged up and I keep blowing out axle seals on the front. Totally didn't even think of a clogged breather until I saw this.
