My front lower control arm bushings have been noisy since I bought the truck a year ago, but it was only noticeable when going straight over a speed bump or something.
After 2 trips to Moab last year I noticed what sounded like a clunk coming from the front driver's side, and only when turning left from a stop.
Was the CV going out?
Did I tweak the front left shock?
Was it the front sway bar end links or some other suspension component? The upper & lower ball joints, shocks, springs, and sway bar bushings are all new in the past year.
I inspected everything and it all looked and felt ok. Then I read about someone spraying all of the bushings to quiet them down. So I got a can of silicone spray and did all of the bushings: upper and lower control arms F & R, sway bars F & R, shock mounts, got em all pretty good.
And....the ride has quieted down significantly! I can't get it to replicate that noise when turning left from a stop. No noise from the front control arms when going over speed bumps.
I realize that lubing a worn out bushing is temporary at best, but it's quieter for now and I didn't throw a bunch of parts at it trying to guess.
I may one day throw some new control arm bushings in there but for $5 and less than 5 minutes I'm fine with the result even if I need to do it again occasionally. Anyway just thought I'd share.
