Front Passenger Side Weathertech Fit Problem (With Pics)

Who else has issues with their front passenger side Weathertech mat? Mine doesn't fit properly on my '07 - if it's flush to the kick panel trim, there's a big gap where it meets the seat mount covers, and vice-versa.

I took it out once, flipped it over, and flattened it out a bit with a heavy box and then it fit perfectly, but within a day or two it took its former shape and the gap was back. Very annoying.

Weathertech thinks the problem is that the mat doesn't stay in place, saying Toyota should have placed anchors there like on the driver's side. But per the pics, it's not a movement problem, it's an issue with either the size or shape.

I'm mashing it again as I did before but for longer this time. The Weathertech person suggested that may fix it for the long term. We'll see.

Yeah, definitely a First World gripe, but customers having to waste their time dicking with trying to get expensive "laser measured" mats to fit properly is BS.

My WTechs seem to fit fine in my '07. I will double check tonight and confirm.

How old are your mats? Not sure if it is relevant, but mine are approx 6 months old... maybe the shrinking and curling hasn't happened yet? Also, you are in GA, do you park outside in the sun often? Not sure if extreme interior temps are a contributing factor... It doesn't really get hot (ever) in VT.

Good questions. I had WTs in my Xterra for many years with no issues, so I bought some right away when we got our 4Runner in October 2014. The fit was off immediately but I thought the passenger side mat just needed to settle in so to speak. Unfortunately, it never did.

Truck is garage kept and seldom in the sun, but I would think warm temps would actually help this issue.

I hope yours do fit properly...I'd hate to be the one that called your attention to an issue you didn't know you had. ;-)

Mine isnt like that either. Does it lay flat enough so that when you shut the door it doesnt bend the pillar piece backwards?

Mine aren't like the ads but nobody really expects a perfect fit, right? I have the advantage of buying them used so my expectations were probably lower than buying new.

This is why i didnt go with the molded style. I saw this issue in person and knew it would bug me. Sure i have to be more careful but im ok with it.

Mine fit perfectly in my 07'. Maybe it was just a bad batch?

Mine fits poorly as well. I just assumed the wife kept sliding it forwards until it lost the right shape. Glad to know it isn't just mine!

I have about a 1 finger gap in the same spots as yours depending which way I slide the passenger mat. No one sits on that side in my truck. Maybe I'll take a heat gun to it in the spring and try to reform it to fit.

I had this with my 3rd gen.
Keep in mind that these are heat formed.

All I did was sit them over a heat register in the house for a while which when warmed up sufficiently made them very soft and pliable.

Then one put back on the floor with some weight all round to match the floor contours, it kept the shape when it cooled.

Confirmed: Mine fit nice and tight all the way around, no gaps, no curling, no issues.
