Front Runner 3/4 rack owners

I'm looking at getting a rack and this one has been one I've looked at a lot. Had a few questions for people who have it.

What has the impact been on MPG's and wind noise?
Do you have any issues with XM losing signal?

I don't track gas mileage too much but I'd say if it effected it, it was around 1-2mpg but nothing significant. Also, I have had no problem with wind noise with the 3/4 rack. I had thule aeroblades on my last car which made more noise than the 3/4 frontrunner rack.

Thanks! Do you use XM and have any signal issues if you did?

Do you have a sunroof? If so you’ll notice more air getting pushed through the sunroof, but only with the windows open. I love the rack, but this is my only complaint.

I’ve had mine for over 2 years. No discernible difference in mpg...maybe .5 mpg but since it’s there I am more likely to throw stuff on it and that does effect the mpg’s obviously. No issues with XM loss. I agree with air getting pushed through the sunroof but I don’t use it much anyway. Tons of pics of it in use on my thread including Yakima skybox use, RTT and maxtrax side mounts which I find to be super useful if you have traction boards to get them off of the flat mounting surface maintaining all the storage up top.

I removed the air deflection bars under the rack and the sunroof is usable again.

Thanks everyone! I use my sunroof quite often and have the back windows cracked to help smooth out the air flow a bit.

Did you notice more noise when you removed the deflection bars?

To add on about XM - I have never had signal issues. My wife's Subaru gets worse signal reception than my 4runner with the rack and her car is bone stock. You'll love the rack!

I had my wind deflector off for a while, and while it virtually eliminates the sun roof wind, I had pretty bad wind noise and vibrations at freeway speeds. Now if I use the sunroof it’s usually half open. That way air is not pushing directly on your head. Also, if you have all the windows up there is absolutely no wind coming in with the sunroof open. I’ve always been curious how it would be with a full rack with the deflector being in front of the sun roof. Any Front runner full rack owners out there with sunroofs that can chime in?
