Front Seat Replacement

So I have a 98 base model and I am looking to do some modification to the seats all the way around.

For the rear I currently have some Corbeau seats that will fit right in but also give me the possibility of having a center console for the rear. I have a rear shelf so folding the seats is a non-issue for me.

Now what about the fronts? I know I don't want to do Corbeau seats since my buddy has them in his Heep and it's a pita to crawl in and out of. I also know that my base model seats suck. Black would be the preferred color since that's the color of the corbeau's however I can always throw some seat covers on there. What are people running and how do you like them? I am looking for something with a decent amount of side support and tilt without killing yourself to get into them. This is my DD. I've heard positive things about WRX, Celica, Supra, and other sports car seats but I am a salvage yard junkie so I was hoping for something I could dig up without winning a lottery ticket in a salvage yard.

Appreciate all comments and suggestions. If details count I am a solid build of approx 200lbs and 6' tall. In pretty good shape. I don't need a wide seat but I don't fit well in a sardine can either.

I don't think the cloth SR5 seats are bad, but my MK3 Supra has literally the most comfortable car seats I've ever sat in. If you could retrofit those into a 4Runner that would be cool. I think I've seen people install Scion XB seats into 4Runners before as well.

I liked my Scion XB seats a lot. Very comfy indeed. I wouldn't mind a little more side support though. I really liked sitting in my buddies GTR-34 in Japan. Amazing fit....also impossible to find the seats in the states lol.

MK3 Supra seats have adjustable side bolsters, they'll squeeze you till it hurts haha

I put the driver seat in mine from my dad's 7th gen Celica to test it out. They were a little low, but you might like that. I don't think the mounts would be too hard to do. They already have the right back horizontal mount. I think you could fit them in by just bending the mounts some. The seat belt also works without modification.

Hmmmm that's worth looking into. An easier seat modification would be nice.

I almost bought some leather celica seats, but they sold and I found some mint SR5 seats a month later.

Actually I was thinking about it. Lower seats would be better simply because I could construct a subframe that would adapt to the 4runner frame and that would eat up the height difference. Some bent 3/16 strips would be all that was needed really to pull it off.

Those seats look like just the ticket honestly. In your experience are they on sale often or are they a rare item.

I just saw them on craigslist randomly for like $50. There's usually a couple celica partouts on there. Not sure about your area though

I will keep an eye out. I imagine that most go to racing seats at some point. I found some cloth ones but the price was pretty high.

There were a couple Celicas at my local LKQ pull a part here last week. Maybe there are some in local yards around you.

I did something like that but since I needed the height I used 1" tube for rails and welded the 4Runner seat feet to each end of them. That gave me a base to bolt on some Mazda seats (best ones I could find that had the right enough rail measurements in the boneyard that day). These particular seats are pretty tall. My 6ft husband fits but he's pretty close to the ceiling. One day I may do different, sportier, less squishy seats but these were a huge improvement for what I had for $20 each and I can see better.
