The OEM Sport hood I am selling had some minor sheet metal damage, so instead of waiting to see if it sells or not I am going to sell the heat shield/insulator from it. I haven't had a chance to remove it yet, but as you can see from these photos it is in excellent condition. These are hard to find so don't wait if you need one. This listing includes the 11 plastic discs that secure the heat shield to the hood.

The price is $79 plus $10 shipping for a total of $89. This includes USPS insurance and tracking. I will most likely ship flat in a double corrugated flat box - I haven't taken one of these off, but I'm pretty sure that you can't roll these up in a tube. Please send as a gift or add 3% so that I still receive $89. As you probably know these cost over $200 new from Toyota.

So Toyota of Dallas sells the Sport Hood insulator for $285. The part number is 53341-35032.

There are 11 clips that secure the heat shield to the underside of the hood. The part number for these is 90467-09006. Toyota of Dallas sells these for $1.25 each.

I can ship a hood insulator like the one listed in this thread, but it is too expensive, impractical, difficult and time consuming to ship a hood. I've done it one time.

I shipped a Sport hood to California and started a tutorial thread about the entire process. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/188609-tutorial-shipping-sport-hood-greyhound-texas-california.html Shipping the hood on Greyhound cost just under $150. The buyer paid me $150 for supplies, packing, boxing, and transporting the boxed hood to Greyhound. The cost for the hood itself was $395.

The project was successful as the hood arrived in Cailfornia undamaged. The supplies, including a custom box, cost just over $200. I drove to Dallas (6-hour round trip) to pick up the box. Outside of getting the box much time was spent doing everything necessary to box the hood. If you read the thread it will be obvious that I cannot do this for $150 - I lost $50 on supplies alone.

I wanted to ship a Sport hood so that I could have a better idea of the time and expense involved. Now that I have done it I know that there is much more time and expense on the "handling" side than I anticipated. I wouldn't say that I won't ship another Sport hood, but it would require much more than a $150 handling fee. I think it would be much more than most would be willing to pay. Shipping this hood completely took over my life for about two weeks!

The unfolded box is taller than my 4Runner

It barely fits in back... it is against the headrest and you can see where it is at the tailgate end.

When I got back home I had to put the box back together. It didn't hurt the box to fold it to get it in the back of my 4Runner, but I wanted to make sure to put it together to make sure it was as good as before.

This box is massive unfolded. You can see how it just sort of takes over my apartment

I think I know where others are... I just need money to get them. Hopefully some of my items on this forum sell. Unfortunately the only day that I can hit the salvage yards is Saturday.

So this is how I ship them. I place the insulator on double corrugated cardboard from a large box. The cardboard is 62" x 36". The insulator is very stiff, so this helps with the integrity of the packaging. The molded/raised parts add about 3" to the height of the package.

I use the awesome brown box tape from U-Haul to reinforce the cardboard and tape around the edges. The edge of the package is about a 1/4" thick and the center is about 3". I then wrap it in brown shipping paper.

I made the rounds on the internet and in person and the only reasonable way to this these is on Greyhound. The estimate for this first one was $68. We used 12 pounds for the estimate, but it weighed 6.7 pounds at the Bryan Greyhound station. The actual weight is somewhere in the middle. My local Greyhound has a scale that always reads less than actual. It gave a weight of 37 pounds for a complete Sport hood, which I think should probably weigh between 50lbs and 55lbs.

If someone wanted me to cut the insulator (after you pay for it) down the center (think from the center of the windshield to the center of the grille) I could stack the two halves and ship these in a package half the size. This would also allow me to ship it USPS for probably under $20. USPS will not ship it as you see it here. They measure the 36" dimension twice plus the length and this goes over their 108" limit.

A cut insulator would still intall the same way with the 11 clips. This is just an idea - I don't know if it would affect the performance of the insulator or not.
