Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how he is getting away with selling racks so similar to Gobi's without getting into legal trouble with them? I want to know his secret, as Gobi seems to be vicious about this sort of thing.

With this its easy. If they have a patent, what's patented? Surely not the idea of a roof rack, I mean that's been public domain for what, centuries now?

Patent bar spacing? Change it. Light mounting? Adjust. There would be so many ways.

His rack is distinctly different in the back where the antenna is. He can make a copy of the gobi as long as it not patented. We see this all the time in my industry (jewelry). Big designers copy each other or are "inspired" by. Some expensive lines try to patent there designs but most fail to hold up in court.

Gobi could threaten a lawsuit to try and get him to stop. I doubt he's selling enough racks to justify the cost. Especially now.

I think another distinct differences is that the Camelback/Drabbits has a slight bend in it, right above the front doors so that the whole rack more closely follows the contour of the roof. I don't remember the Gobi doing that, so that when you look at it from the side, the rear of the rack is closer to the roof than at the front since the roofline of the truck dips down towards the front windshield.

It's one of those little things that you don't really notice until you look for it; but once you see it, it's hard to ignore.

There the Gobi Stealth then there's the "Camelback Ultra Stealth" So stealthy you cant even see it!

ARB 2500 mounted

I went with the Fourtreks mounts and the ARB 2500. I'm glad I got the 2500, the extra coverage will be quite nice. And it mounted easily to the rack. I have it mounted as far back as it can go and just misses the open liftgate by about 1/4".

A quick search with that username came up negative. Not sure what this means for those that still have not received their racks.....

Started building my own rack.
Got some good direction from some members here. I will post completed pics as soon as I'm done. Which will hopefully be tomorrow.

All I have left to do is fab up the brackets and paint the whole thing.

Alex isn't taking new orders any more. Everyone in this thread placed orders a wile ago when wait times were closer to 5-6 months not 18 months. He has delivered a bunch of good racks to many users.
