Fuel caps will not lock or stay on filler neck

Hello,

My 2006 4Runner SR5 is having an issue with the gas cap. I got to put it on, turn it, and hear it click. But it is not tight and falls off. So I went to Advance Auto Parts and got a new one. The same issue happens. At this point I am guessing it is an issue with the filler neck connection. This is causing all kins of warning lights on the dash.

My question is, do I have to replace the WHOLE filler neck to fix this issue? And if so, where do I find this part? Rock Auto or none of the normal places carry it and I was hoping I didnt have to get it from the dealer.

Odd. So I found if I put ANY pressure when turning the cap, the cap does not lock. If I just turn it with no pressure it locks fine. This doesnt seem right to me....however, I do not drive this car every day like my wife.

Is that the correct behavior for this cap?

Replace the rubber ring the gas cap, thats all you need to do.

My engine light came on a few years ago..and when I read the code it was the Evap system. The first thing to check on that error is the gas cap. So I went to ADAP (they were open on Sunday) and bought a new gas cap. I cleared the code...put the cap on..and was happy for about 2 days when the code came back. Thinking it might be something more serious...I started doing some research. And what I found was some guys were having problems with aftermarket gas caps. So I went to the dealer and bought a Toyota gas-cap. Code never returned.
