Fuel issues?

Yesterday the truck stumbled and bogged a little bit, then the trouble went away. Today it died while driving, just completely cut out. I've got crank, and I got it started once but it stumbled badly, wouldn't stay running without flogging the throttle, then died and hasn't started again since.

There's gas in the tank, but the spark plugs are dry and when I crack the fuel lines on either side of the filter I get a little dribble but no spray. Am I correct in thinking that if the fuel pump was working correctly that I'd have enough residual pressure in the lines to cause at least a spurt or a hiss?

I'm thinking fuel pump or circuit opening relay. If anybody has any other ideas I'd love to hear them.

sounds like the fuel pump died. I would check the voltage going to the pump. if you have voltage and ground drop the tank and replace the fuel pump.

Try testing / jumping around the relay first. I believe there is a test connector under the hood you can jump to bypass the C.O. relay.

I need to replace my mine as the motor no longer runs without a bypass.

Might also want to check your fuel lines for leaks.

Given that you were driving it when the problem first presented itself, I doubt it is the relay. A quick and easy test to do anyway.

If you jump the +B and Fp terminals in the test connector it will bypass the COR and AFM interlock. If problem still occurs it rules those two out.

Jumping that connector was no help, and I definitely get click from the COR when I twist the key to Run. I didn't know that ruled out the AFM too, that saves me a test. Thanks!

So, bypassing the COR doesn't help, replacing the COR with the one from the spare truck doesn't help, and most importantly, jumping 12v and ground straight from the battery to the fuel pump doesn't make it make any nice pumpy noises (it should make nice pumpy noises, yes?). The only thing I haven't done is check for battery at the harness going into the pump, but I don't think I'm going to bother. This has to be a bad pump.

You might consider a fuel pressure test. With that little fuel coming off the lines, when cracked, sounds like it's time for a new f-pump/regulator.

I'm having this same issue. It'll start for like one second, run fine for that second then shut right down. It's like there's very little fuel getting to the injectors. Did you ever get that fixed? And where exactly is the COR located? I'd much rather replace that than have to drop the tank.
Thanks very much :-)

My trouble ended up being the pump. Definitely check the electrical first though, COR is up inside the passenger kick panel. You don't have to drop the tank to replace the filter, there's a hatch under the rear passengers seat.

If it runs for a second and dies, look at the connections on the AFM and igniter. I've had open connections in both those places cause that trouble.

Actually, I'm 99.999% sure it's the pump. It acts just like a lack of fuel after the cold start injector stops firing. If the pump had any life left, it would have enough pressure to run 6 more injectors. So, I'm changing the pump now (I'm like 1/2 way through the job). The COR makes the required click when the key is turned on.
I've already replaced the filter and the AFM, so I'm pretty sure it's not any of those, and yet, I gotta admit I'm scared to try to start it after this work is done lol. Wish me luck!
Thanks for the information!

I replaced the pump, filter and AFM. It turns out it was the COR after all. I replaced that and it runs with no problem. That was like 2 weeks ago and no problems at all since. I spent more money than necessary, but I like the fact that there's a new pump, filter and AFM on board. It is 23 years old after all, and I'm pretty sure none of these parts have been replaced.
