Fuel Pump for '94 4Runner

Hi,
I've got a 94 4Runner that quit running a few weeks ago. I had gone to the store, and on my way home, it died while I was pulling out of the parking lot. I think the fuel pump is bad. I don't hear it coming on, but I haven't put a meter on it yet. I just found out from some other posts here that I've been checking the wrong relay (I've been checking the EFI, thinking it was what I needed to check, and not knowing there was a relay specifically for the pump).
I'd like to not break the bank on this, so if it is a pump, what are some good reliable brands to check out? Same question for the relay.

For parts like that, I stick with OEM. I think the OEM pumps are Aisin. Try Rockauto.

I'm guessing by your name you flyfish a lot? I've been meaning to learn how, I keep driving past cool lakes and wishing I had something more than a casting rod. Lots of good lakes up in the Uintahs that want me to eat their fish, and I can't catch them.

I just went through this with our 1990, here is a run down:
Dealer:
1) tank assembly seal , about $10
2) EFI relay , about $12
Went with Autohausaz.com for the rest of the parts:
1) new fuel pump assembly with screen(this matters, you'll need it!)
2)new asian fuel pressure regulator
3) fuel filter(japanese brand, oem)

Toyota really upgraded the quality on the assembly seal and worth getting from the dealer unless you like fuel leaks down the line(fit perfectly as well). I know you won't think it's worth it, but get a new regulator. The old one in there will be shot. If it is not complete gone from the ethanol in the petrol today, the pressure from the new pump will blow out that little dried out rubber diaphragm.

Thanks for the tips. I towed the thing to the mechanic today to have them run some diagnostics just to for sure pin down what the problem is. I'm hoping it's nothing too hard to deal with. Changing a fuel pump doesn't sound like a lot of fun, but I've been prepared to do it.

KidVermicious: yeah, I fly fish. Quite a bit. And it's driving me insane not having a vehicle to get on the river. I'm missing some good hatches.

the pump is easy to do you dont even have to drop the tank it can be accsessed by the panel under the rear passenger side seat pull the carpet back and bam its right there unscrew the bolts pull the unit out replace the pump and install a new seal bolt it down and your good to go! 1 hour job if you have all the parts and a 8mm socket and some screw drivers.

If your talking about this "black panel", your not pulling any 4runner fuel pump assembly through that. The tank is only about an inch from the chassis panel. It is only there to disconnection line and electrical harness. Now, it would have been nice for toyota to put a hatch in there for fuel pump assembly R&R.

thats when you make your own pannel! Dremmel tool and good measurements. To seal the hole you make just cut a square piece of sheet metal bigger than your hole and screw it , ofcoruse dont forget gasket maker. Did this on my 96z28 years back and never had to drop the tank

Hey Folks I'm new to the forum. working on a 1995 4runner, it's been siting for a couple of years. I had to replace the bypass pipe. I'm trying to get it started and it seems I have no fuel pumping. I have removed the little black panel under the back seat, and was wondering is that wire going to the fuel pump and should it have power with the key on? don't want to replace the FP and that not be the problem.http://i45.tinypic.com/34oc3k2.jpg

The pump doesn't run with the motor off and the key in the run position. With the key in the run position, jump the FP and B+ on the diagnostic terminal with a piece of wire, or paperclip. You should here the pump run.
