Fuel pump issue?

Interesting. I was told I had a 18.5 gallon tank. What years had the 16?

I once went 307 miles before I got gas. It was a long stretch of no gas Ohio and luckily made it. That is why I always assumed I had the 18.5 gallon tank.

my comment on the 16 gallons the max you can fill it was why I said 16 gallons .. so with your MPG do not run it 280 miles unless you like running out of gas and perhaps towing it changing the fuel filter.

I would fill it @180-200 miles of running after its filled ..

not good to top off any fuel tank to the max then park it as the vapor canister system does get damaged..

not sure on MPG you get as the weather changes.. on my T4R in winter temp 20F I get 16MPG , then when I go south the MPG is 20 MPG ....@75-90F..

when you fill it do the math on MPG ..

So I have been studying the behavior of the truck for a while now. The rough start has continued to occur on and off and I cannot seem to predict when it happens or see any pattern to it. It does it when it wants to and it can be a short 2 second rough idle or a long 15 second shake. It clears up and runs fine afterwards.

Yesterday it did it and I revved the engine to 3k rpms. This caused the check engine light to flash. I shut it down and restarted to another rough idle but no CEL.

The past two weeks it has been cutting out under load, especially at rpms above 2k. I cannot downshift to maintain speed on a hill without it bucking and cutting out. I cannot get it over 65 mph going up a slight incline on the highway. Passing people is impossible now. I can go downhill at any speed without any issue.

I was recently hauling 1 ton of pellets up my back yard in 4-low. I had to rev it a little due to the cargo weight and it bucked once or twice and I was just crawling slow but it was about 2500 rpms.

Does this sound like the fuel pump is starting to go?

Well I am pretty sure the pump is toast. It was surging every two seconds, had no power to do hills, and had a nasty whine coming from the rear.

I ordered a Denso and gasket. Hopefully I get this thing back on the road soon.

Good luck...and stop running the tank low on gas.
