Do you ever wonder why Toyota fuel pumps last so long? It's because Denso the builder of their fuel pumps designed them to trigger the fuel light with 3 plus gallons still in the tank. You see, heat kill's fuel pumps and fuel is what cool's the pump. So by having the fuel pump trigger the light with 3 plus gallons still in the tank your pump will not over heat and last longer. It's not a defect, it's designed that way. Your gas gauge is not broken or built wrong. My light comes on and I drive for at least 15-25 miles before I get gas and I put in 14.6 gallon's today. Chevy is about 1.8 gallons left when the light comes on. Mazda is 2.5
