I posted up a classified ad, priced at half of the gobi. If a few folks want one I could maybe do them even cheaper?? I dunno, don't want to sell myself short either though.

I'm confused as to how the front mounts work?

They push down, and against the downward curve of the rack, to stabilize the front and provide support for any loads that hang over the front, like kayaks or lumber etc...

I have the centers of the cross bars at 10" apart. With the mesh measuring at .120 thickness is no problem to walk or stand on.

Matt told me to come look at this, I didn't buy his compliments of your work. I take all that back, great work. The only thing you're missing are the prerouted wires (4 front, 2 rear) running through the tubing. Only if you're going after them. Great job again man, may come to you when I get back into things and if I don't have any standing relations anymore with Gobi.

as mentioned, i think offering a fairing with a whitson metalworks decal on it would be a nice touch. :nerd:
also, for the tilting sunroof dilemma, how much of it actually is in the way??? what i mean is could you possibly just leave out a 4 inch long gap of mesh at the back edge of the sunroof or something like that? still mesh the front over the majority of it, and just have a slot across the width of the rack for it to poke through. if you have something there, cant use it, but if not you still could. i can relate to wanting to see through it more, but i think for most of the off roaders here the risk of damaging that glass would outweight that.
the other option might be a mesh inset that can easily clamp or bolt on over the sunroof. when not in use it could clamp onto the middle, and then be there to put over the glass if you need to haul something.
just some ideas. i have a few more for my rack that i am still troubleshooting so as not to waste your time with stuff.

I wish I had the option to see one in person. I'm really digging it. How do those front mounts look? Any suggestions or things you would change about the rack besides the pre routed lighting wires?

I'm working on the wind fairing right now, I had no idea how much a sheet of aluminum costs! So I'll probly work with steel, and being a small piece its a very small weight difference. I think the front mounts look good and that theyll work great. Being that the only option for attaching is adhesives (unless folks want to drill holes...) design choices are limited. My goal with these mounts was to not have a big piece of angle iron taped to the roof, which would be unsightly if you wanted to take the rack off for a time. Also, I don't really mean to go after anyone, just trying to give an option for champaign loving beer drinkers out there lol. There really aren't affordable full length rack options out there.

A group buy would keep me busy for quite a while. I just found a connection on powder coating a large batch of them, if the time comes, at a rate I feel comfortable not raising my asking price for. Powder is the way to go and id feel much better about absorbing a little cost and sending out a better product. Still working on a wind fairing that I can offer for those wanting. Trying to keep cost down on that also, but make sure it actually works. Really appreciate the compliments and interest!

How about a sheet of plastic for the wind fairing? Its light and easily replaceable. I really want to put lights across the front so it be nice to have the option of on or off for lights. I like the idea of a crossbar behind the sun roof too but only if the sunroof isn't covered by the expanded metal. Also, what about wire hoops on the lower rails for tie down points? Or at least holes in the floor at the outer rails to strap my cargo nets through?

All good ideas wastedaccount, I'm trying to work with plexi for a fairing right now but trying to determine if a low, shorter fairing will throw the wind over the front without having to totally cover the front of the rack. Most I think would want lights so a full coverage fairing would be in the way for them. Plexi is light, easy to repair or replace if it gets whacked, and makes a great place for stickers!! I may let buyers request tie down points where and how they want them for a couple bucks. I always just use the tubing itself to tie whatever I need, but I know how picky some people are about strapping down cargo lol.

Per the deal I have with the powdercoater, if I could bring him a large batch (5-10), I can do one as pictured above for 625. Any extras needed or desired can be pm'd and discussed. I think it would be safe for me to say that if one was going to put lights on it, there would be 4 up front and 2 in the back?? If that's the case ill just build those into the pictured design.
