Full Vinyl Wrap

That looks super clean! just wondering how does it hold up with scratches? does it rip easily? as well, typically, how much do they charge for a full wrap? im looking for an olive green wrap.

Thanks! I've had the wrap on for over a year now and it has held up amazing. Mainly city and highway miles so I have the normal small rock chips on the front grill/bumper area. I haven't done any true off roading, having moved to the north Detroit suburbs but vinyl does/should hold up to most challenges you give it. Light scratches can be heated out with a heat gun and the deep scratches/tears through the vinyl can easily be replaced. Your typical price range can be anywhere between $1500-$5000 with lots of variables to determine cost.

Love this idea, thinking about vinyl wrapping my trail edition. Wondering how much vinyl wrap i would need. How much did you use to vinyl wrap your t4r?

Front Bumper Inserts?

Nice looking wrap - I've got a little experience with vinyl wrapping, and am now looking to wrap my runner in 3M 1080 matte military green. I've got a question for you regarding the front bumper.....did you use inserts? If not, did the material heat/cut/stretch around the recesses for the fog lights okay for complete coverage? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
Oh absolutely on the inserts!! Theres no real wrong way to do the front bumper, but theres definitely a clean looking way. Definitely take the time to remove the bumper and you'll be able to remove all the plastic parts to get the cleanest look. Good luck on the wrap! (sorry for the delay, been super busy)
 
To OP and other experts/artists here please: Is it true Avery film is generally a "better" product than 3M (more durable and long-lasting)? From the sounds of it installers find it much "easier" to work with also?

Seriously considering a full wrap for my new wagon and a few of the Avery matte colors are just the ticket.

I went with a full color change from its original Classic Silver, to Avery Dennison's new SW900 Matte Metallic Grigio along with 3M 1080 Dark Matte Black accents. It took me 7 full days of 6-8 hrs of labor per day, and I did the install in my personal garage at my house(not ideal but i made sure it was as clean as it could be).

I have been doing vinyl for some time now and love showing and educating people about how it looks, feels, works and lasts, which is what I hope to achieve with this thread. This install was a bit more detailed than most wraps can/would be, but I wanted to show the versatility of the film and that the customization is endless(with the proper installer/installation).

The film itself is roughly 3mils thick and is applied with heat and squeegee(s). The removal of body parts such as mirrors, door handles, lights, etc. are not necessary, but will give the best overall look and outcome. The lifetime of vinyl will vary on a number of scenarios, and proper installation is at the top of the list. Knowing your installer went the extra lengths of prepping the vehicle properly, and post heating the vinyl in heavily stretched areas is going to make the wrap last much longer. Generally speaking you can get 7 good years out of your wrap. The front bumper or anything that takes the brunt of rock hits/etc may wear down in the 3-5yr window but that varies also on how often/hard you drive and how its maintained.

I know that for some of you, this may not be your cup of Tea(or whisky), but that is the beauty of this Forum. I love how inspired I get from looking at everyones builds, and what they do to make it their OWN 4Runner. And thats what vinyl is all about. I have a 4Runner that is exactly how I want it to look(for now), and when I am ready for a new color scheme, I just use a heat gun and remove the vinyl while the entire time my vehicle is wrapped my original paint is unharmed and still like new.

Not every "wrap" has to be a full color change either. "Accent Wraps" are very common these days like having just your mirrors, roof, hood, stripes done. The way most shops will quote you is by what material you choose, by square foot and install time.

I would love to answer any more questions anyone has about vinyl, and I can also answer any tint and paint protection(clear bra) questions as well. I appreciate everyones time and am inspired daily on this site.

how much material do I need to purchase for the entire 4runner? How much square footage did you buy of the main color ?
 
Hey t4rouble checking in to see how your wrap is holding up after 6 years. Other than a good wash, what prep did you do on the original paint before applying vinyl?

Dunno if OP will reply but i've had luck with claybar first, then a dawn/water solution to strip any remaining waxes off the surface. I've also seen a isopropyl/water solution works too.

Thanks. I heard a claybar was suggested and then a stripping solution to get wax etc off. Using Dawn sounds better.
