Fumoto Valve - Stock Skid Plates?

I've been looking at the Fumoto valve for my 2004 V6 but i'm not sure its the right move at this point...

I think the correct part # is F-103N

Does anyone use one of those things with the stock skid plate?

I really want one of these things but I have concerns with clearance and it sticking out.

Yes it does, I have one with the nipple to attach a hose for draining, doesn't stick out at all, clears skid plate.

Just did my first oil change after installing the F-103S. That's the one with the short nipple, which I decided to use to be sure of the clearance. You get a little plastic adapter that makes it easier to attached tubing to the nipple. I use the tubing because it's often breezy outside where I live and it can blow the oil stream around while draining.

The Fumoto is great and there are no issues with clearance, even with the oval plastic filler piece inserted in the skid plate.

This is just before draining, with optional safety clip still in place (black piece with "Fumoto" on it). The safety thing is overkill because the way the valve is designed, I can't conceive of anything opening it accidentally, but for $4 or whatever, I got one.

I highly recommend the Fumoto valve. Made the oil change even easier than it already is.

I cant comment on the V6 fitment but I also use a safety piece to keep the valve from opening. I bought a hose clamp (not the screw type but the compression type you open with pliers) from lowes and it works and fits perfect. I dont foresee anything opening the valve but for about a dollar for two it was a worth it for me to know the valve wasnt going to be opened.

I noticed yours has a nylon looking nipple. Mine is a one piece brass unit but maybe thats how they are making them now. (Edited to add: Nevermind I see you have the short version so thats why its different) I would definitely get the nipple version though as using the hose is nice and clean.

Another option is the EZ oil drain valve. Looks similar to Fumoto but less expensive ($26.95 on Amazon). It uses the same part number convention, so I bought the 103.

They come standard with a short nozzle that they call the hose end. The hose end is removable to make it flush in case it hangs down too low. It can also be subbed out for an elbow or longer nozzle.

No issues on my V8 either. I got the valve with the long nipple and there is still ample protection for off road. I've had these valves on about a half dozen of my cars and never had any issues.

I have the F103S on an '06 V6. No clearance issues, haven't needed to use a hose on it. I highly recommend it, the entire process is so easy and less messy now.

I've had one on my 2004 V6 for years. No safety piece, no tube or hose, no problems, works great.

The quality of the Fumoto valve is also excellent I might add since I need posts under my belt in order to make my own posts. Maybe while I'm here someone might be able to answer or pm me. Will 2002-2003 RSX HIDs work with a little bit of modification to 2006 4Runner?

Here's a stupid question!

Do these valves stay in place for good? It sounds to me like they replace the original nut. If true, that's a good amount sticking down and looks like it can easily be taken out but a foreign object, then all the oil leaks out.

Thanks for all the info...

I decided to pass on it... oil plug is still completely accessible with the stock skids on, and i can't shake the fear of trail damage or accidental opening and killing my motor. Ill probably end up with OCD checking this thing constantly on the trail...

Ill get this valve if/when I get a full set of skid plates where its better protected, and access to the plug is harder for regular oil change and where making a mess is a greater potential.

Question regarding keeping the valve operational after it's soaked in mud for example. You get of road, get mud all over the oil pan and now you want to open the valve. How does it work for you guys?
