Fun at Discount Tire.

Ya I was having a nail removed from my tire before a road trip. Kid rolls tire up it wobbles and slams down on top of my hubcap. Oops completely broke hubcap. Told have a new one on Tuesday when I get back. Go to store Tuesday No Hubcap. Ok. Go back Wednesday. Wrong hubcap Ok. Oh ya and it also managed to scratch the crap out of my wheel to. So I talked to manager about wheel. Getting a $175.00 credit for tires because of wheel damage. Going back today to hopefully get Correct hubcap. Manager was also trying to talk me out ot getting Duratrac's saying its Not a good tire for the 4runner and get the BFG ALL Terrains instead. Anyone running Duratracs want to chime in. I think they would be awesome myself. I want to be able to go play in the Snow in Northern Az. Kid still has a job just probably a little lighter in the paycheck.

I am ALWAYS skeptical of a salesman/manager making suggestions like that.

I'll bet if you go there next month he'll say the Duratrac's are best tires made.

Many times the manufacturers run specials with the stores. In fact they offer sales incentives. Example. Tire manufacturer (Goodyear) has a sales promotion with a store and tells them that "If you sell more then 200 sets of tires this month we'll give you $500." So it's in their best interest to push the Good year tires. Next month Michelin comes in with a similar deal...So that month they're pushing Michelin's.

Only had my Duratracs for a week, absolutely love them thus far. We get very little snow here, but from what I've read the Duratrac should have better snow performance. I don't think you'd be disappointed. I'd really like to see some facts proving the Duratracs aren't a good choice, because they seem to be an excellent choice based on the feedback from members here.

Haven't had either of those tires so I can't comment on that but if it was me and they really scratched the rim up I'd make them buy me a new rim. A new rim costs way more than $175. Doesn't seem like a fair trade to me.

I heard the duratracks have a weak sidewall. The BFGs hold up better off road if your dealing with rocks and such. I got the BFGs for that reason alone and I looked at both. Duratrack is a good looking agressive tire for the money and for light offroad and snow traction should be fine IMO. Biggest diff for me was I got the BFGs 700 bucks out the door on a mis quote. Guy was crying when I left.

I kicked around the idea of the BFG's myself. I dont know what size tire you are looking for, but if it is a 285, make sure you get the 'D' rated tire. It is built for lighter vehicles running oversized tires. The 'E' rated tires are heavier and built for larger heavier vehicles. Just my 2¢.

Discount (and other tire chains) talked me out of the BFB AT's due to how heavy they were, only came in 10 ply, the Duratracs are 3 ply I believe, I like mine. good tires all around.

I've had my Duratracs E loads for 3 months now. I'm very happy with them, great in the snow. I did have a puncture right after I got them (400 miles) But there was no way any other tire would have done any better. It was a 3" frame bolt from a old truck or something. I've had the BFG's in the past and the DT's are hands down better in the cold temps/snow.

Well, it's relative. Using the word weak seems overstated, but, yeah, BFGs are heavier duty.

I have 32x11.5's BFG AT's on my 95. They are just a great, well respected tire that runs smooth and performs well. Except in the mud.

I have 265/75/16 Duratracs on my 2003. I got em about 3 weeks ago and I have zero complaints. They look great and ride well.

Either way you go, you'll be happy. If it comes down to looks, go Duratrac!

I will talk from personal experiance on my Duatracs. I have used then a lot this season in the snow of Colorado!.

I got my tires for $250/tire at tire rack. 285/70/17 check out my thread if a visual picture. I swear the duratracs can not be stopped in the powder!. I have gone thru miles of snow up to from 2-3 feet on these things. It just keeps !eating! the snow. I did bottom out on 4 feet of snow but was able to back out with help from the passanger and keep going. The Duratracs are rated "among the best in the winter weather" on ice they grip well for being not studded. They have the option to insert studs for the winter time. As far as off road they grip very well! they self clean well. The only downside is the 3 ply maybe

My 2 cents, i love my BFG's. I have the BFG Long Trail T/A's on both my Runners and couldnt be happier.

I too had a really sketchy run-in with Town Faire Tire's Salesman. I came in this week to see which BFG's they carry...he IMMEDIATELY tried to get me to look at Toyo tires. I know NOTHING about Toyo's, BUT i DO KNOW that they constantly talk about them on their commercials...which would lead me to believe that they are told to push this product.

I finally just said, "Look, could you just point me to the BFG rack please? Cuz im ready to leave." He shut up after that.

I know these guys are just doing their jobs....but cummon! If i come into a store and ask the guy to point me towards the Snicker bars, DONT GO TELLING ME I REALLY WANNA MOUNDS!

For these reasons, I recently made my first online tire purchase. Ordered my Duratracs from treadepot.com. Saved $200 over what it would have cost locally and I had them the day after I placed the order. Very painless transaction, probably the only way I'll buy tires in the future.

Awesome feedback as I kinda thought Duratracs have been a popular choice for the runner thats why I was looking at them. He made it seem like it wasn't a good choice at all. I will also be going out into the rocky area's Az has to offer so good sidewall protection would be a plus. I have BFG A/T's on my '99 Taco and went up to some snow in Flag and did very well. So ya he really doesn't need to sell me on BFG A/T's just surprised how badly he portrayed the Duratrac's for the runner in general. I thought they were a good option to look into myself. Finally after the 3rd return trip Yeah I finally have the correct hupcap...

Love my duratracs so far, havn't had any problems. I've only had them on for a month now though, so I'm not a super reliable source. But they look aggressive and are AWESOME on snow and ice!

There's a Town Faire near me....I wouldn't let them put air in my tires.

Total sleaze outfit. Extremely pushy salesmen. They won't even talk to you unless you give them your name and phone number (so they can keep calling). I made that mistake ONCE...After 2 years they stopped calling.

Tire store that CALLS YOU?! That's a new one, lol. I'd be pissed. Here in Denver, pretty much just have Discount and Big-O. I haven't tried ordering from TireRack or elsewhere before. Will look into that next time, but my local Discount will let me bring in a printout of TireRack's quote and match it. Don't know if all of them will do that though.

Tirerack is good. 4wheelparts is better. The prices are just a bit higher but if you pick them up at the store you don't pay shipping and that makes up the difference big time.
