Functional Hood Scoop / Ram Air

Has anyone created a custom ram air setup with their hood scoop? How about the Volant CAI with the Tacoma ram air setup? I have the v8 but curious either way!

I think one guy rigged something up years ago but it wasn't very useful/

This has been discussed a few times, and it has been agreed that due to the location and shape of the scoop it would be useless.

If the scoop faced backwards or you had an old school ram air hood it would work, as the air hits the windshield and is deflected into scoop. With the placement of the 4th gen scoop, most air goes over or around the scoop.
 
Its functional on the Toyota turbo diesels. The intercooler is placed on top of the engine.

I looked into this when I had my 03 sport with the hood scoop, I never was a fan of the fake plastic filler that they put in there. Definitely would like to see someone do this

That front bumper intake is frickin sweet, I may have to try that with my 08
 
Hiding a light bar would be more useful. The Tacoma dudes do it. And it turns out that it works well. (no glare if you were wondering)

This sounds interesting! Happen to have any links and were they able to fit something like a Rigid SR at least? I took a glance at the opening size and just assumed it was too small to fit anything more than a knight rider scanner led bar, so I dropped that idea :lmao:

:rofl: That is what my buddy wanted me to do after I scrapped the intake mod idea

That's a pretty cool idea and looks well put together as well, but the hood scoop on the Tacoma/4Runner is so small that I doubt it would give a substantial, if any, performance gain.

The Turbodiesel intercooler on the other hand is located directly below the hood scoop - which also looks to be slightly taller and shaped better; overall the application seems more functional.

Would be an interesting mod regardless of any performance benefit. What I'd really like to see is a well designed snorkel for our 4th Gen's, one of these days I might start building one...
 
Rather than "ram" air in im looking at taking heat out. I plan on using a gt500's hood vent and cut up a non-scoop hood. I've beening looking for a oem used one in decent shape but have had no luck as of now. I might just buy an oem one, unpainted, then hack it up, then paint it and see what happens.
