FYI - Clean your throttle body

I was having some issues of RPM dropping under 500 rpm under heavy braking and then engine cutting out. This happened once on I66 and I was not happy.

Then I decided to tighten up everything and clean all the intake. The back of my throttle body was black with buildup at 45k miles. Scrubbed it with some CRC and a plastic toothbrush. All shiny. Idle RPM went from 550 to 1200 RPM. Holy smoke. So then decided to reset the idle by unplugging the battery for a few hours. All good now. No more dropping idle and everything runs smooth.

I would look into why you're getting black buildup at 45K if I was you.

No issues here at 135k, haven't touched mine but I do change the air filter and clean the MAF every 25k or so. Throttle body has never been off. Did you yank it or just do it with it mounted but the peripherals off of it?

I used to just do them with the hoses removed but haven't done so to a vehicle in probably 15 years.

I would look into why your getting black buildup at 45K if I was you.

aftermarket air filter setup? or aftermarket filter itself? faulty pcv valve? It's gotta be a aftermarket mod. definitely not normal to have that much buildup in a 2016 with 45k

I'd also check and clean your IAC. That shouldn't be dirty at your mileage, but I've seen vehicles that need that cleaned like every 20K miles so... maybe?

I didn't do a full throttle body cleaning until I hit 90k. There was SOME black build up, but not a lot.

I cleaned it and the MAF and didn't notice any difference in performance.

I also change my oil every 3-5k and air filter every 5-10k, so my theory is, clean oil going through the PCV, and clean air coming in, the throttle body should stay pretty clean.

Completely removed the whole thing. did everything over a bucket as not to make a mess.

I do have a safari snorkel with a TRD CAI. The dealership replaced the air filter for free and didn't put the cover back on properly. I was driving around like that for 3k before I noticed and replaced the filter with a TRD one when they had the anniversary sale. I also put in an oil catch can around 35k and it gets pretty full with black ink colored oil. My wild assumption is the PVC is pretty nasty and in combo with the dirty air from the dealership screwup caused my initial problems.
