garage door / gate opener buttons falling out

We have used the built in opener system on my 2004 Limited since day one. While its never had a very strong signal, like my wifes RX330 does, at least it worked. Used two of the buttons, one for garage and one for gate. A couple of months back one of the buttons sort of compressed into the housing, then a week later just fell out. I added hand held controls to the sun glass compartment, and now the second button has fallen out. Dealer tells me there is not a way to just add new buttons, need expensive replacement unit, all that.

Anyone ever have something similar happen, find an expensive way to replace the little buttons on the unit so they work again?

My 4R didn't come with homelink. I looked online and found the map light console with sunroof button, homelink and the color was the same and bought it off eBay. Got the part, took out the "old" one and plugged in the "new" part and it worked! Now I don't have to use the remote to open the garage. I have an 06 4R, the part came from an 03 4R. Look it up eBay you might find one to just replace it. I think I paid about $85 for it. Good luck though cause when I got mine it showed "last one left".

i swapped one from a used Lexus GX it comes with interior lights and a mic if needed for navigation, just have to rewire the lights and match up the sunroof switches

I just looked up one from a GX and found one exact color and year model is same as mine. It has those ambient lights and option for "door and off". One of my buddies has a 2012 highlander and at night as the light that beams down, I thought the light is pretty cool, not too bright or dim. I just might switch it with the GX one...
Was it a pain to re-wire?
And do you remember how much you paid for yours? I see on eBay it's going for $128.

i paid 150 2 years ago... matching the wires was easy once you figure which colors are which.

my cheat sheet, the last three i just hooked up to interior light when i turn on the lights it turns on and dims too!

Cool thanks. I actually just found one on eBay for $80 with $20 shipping. Unfortunately the picture you posted is blurry so I can't read anything off it lol

well the last 3 i hooked up to the interior lights ran the wire down the A pillar and just spliced into the closest button, i used a tester to see which one is which.
