gaterose build thread

Very nice shots Matt ! Been meaning to ask how the brand x ladder holding up , no rattles or noise ? Have to tighten it up at all ?

Thanks Mike!

It's holding up well, so far no rattles and haven't had to tighten it up. The mounts seem to stay pretty tight. I guess I should check the bolts some time but the way it clamps the hatch I don't think vibrating loose is a big issue.

Not really any big changes here lately besides an upcoming rearview camera replacement. But, I went out last week and got some poser shots for an upcoming occasion and figured I'd share a few here. More on the occasion later.

pics on details would be nice on running the camera wire. mine is getting shipped now, and I have no clue how that will get to the licence plate yet.

+1, getting my backup cam soon too.

Gaterose, where is some info on everyone "tinting" their headlamps?. Any head-on shots? I see only side profile but it looks good. I'm starting with 2006 stock.

runner looks great. still cant get over those wheels man lol. they look better and better every time i see them.

I will try to get something with the backup camera, I plan to just run it down the doorsills back to the cargo area and then run it like PD superman3043 did in his recent writeup. My old camera quit work, I think because the wires got cut/stretched by the window like PD talks about in his. edit- not sure when it'll be I have a kitchen semi-remodel in progress on my hands as well as the holidays... Bought the camera a few weeks ago and haven't even looked at it.

There are head on shots, but I couldn't tell you where... Sorry it's 45 pages lol. There's a head on shot in my previous post but the high beams are on so it's difficult to see.

Search for "black headlight mod" and you should find it pretty quickly, it's fairly easy and a lot of people do it.

Thanks a lot Will, you still haven't sent a link to or posted pictures of your Tundra for me!

Guess I'm going to be looking for some paint. I agree on my grill to paint the lower portion, I'm just afraid it's going to make the mesh area look smaller! Guess we will see, def doing the lower valance front and rear in white!

I'm assuming you don't have kids, but if you did, I would you say you love your 4Runner more than them?

I just read through all 45 pages, and I am quite envious to say the least. Your road trips are quite amazing and your pictures are wonderful!

Cheers!

Yeah the lower valances look much better color matched than silver. I guess that's why they changed it in the later years. I don't think white is going to make the mesh look smaller, I would only paint the bottom bar and not the sides or inside parts. Maybe it will make a difference from further away, but in most of the shots you posted I think the black is pretty visible and doesn't "blend" with the mesh enough to say that it'll look much smaller being white.

No, no kids yet but we do have 2 cats and 2 dogs. And as I tell my girlfriend often, I love all 5 of them more than my 4R... despite what they may think.

Thanks for the compliments! I'm really yearning for a road trip right now but just don't have the time or money.

long overdue but... finally got some pics of my tundra for ya haha

Got my hard copy today, still excited about having the opportunity to share my build in a magazine.

Thanks a lot! Been kinda slow lately, but I like where it is right now and don't have reason to change a lot.
