gaterose build thread

Since you've got lights on your roof rack I would like to ask the question of how the wiring goes.

I'm getting a Baja rack with the light cage, light force 170's,etc, but I'm clueless on how to tuck the wires away, any specific points that you thread the wires through?

Thanks!

Sorry, I just saw this.

I ran the wires into the cab and drilled a hole in the roof near the foot mounts. It can be down the frame to the back of the truck or up the windshield pillar as well. If you're not looking to drill, it'd be best to search for some photos of others who wired that way.

I've changed a few things since the last time I updated this, so here are some changes -

- Viair 300P portable air compressor, I plan to turn into a hybrid portable/on board setup down the road
- Shirley Fab front bumper (A_Hul's old bumper, but modified)
- Warn M8000 winch (it's rated a little lower than I'd like but was free and I plan to swap the motor and gears from a 9.5xp down the road)
-- 98' of Any7 Off Road 3/8" Technora line
-- Viking Safety Thimble
-- ProMark Remote kit
-- CSE Off Road Billet Fairlead
-- 7" Red tubular nylon chafe guard with chain link design
- Hanma 6 LED Pods (Dually D2 knockoffs that I had laying around) with Amber Lenses
- Moog FJ Cruiser 4x4 Springs, 660# to support the bumper & winch
- Replacement LCAs (needed LBJs and bushings)
- Replaced both front calipers, rotors, and pads to eliminate wheel shake during braking

Here are some pictures I took during the bumper transformation
The hoop was bent and there were no winch access holes so first I chopped the hoop and used a 2-3/4" holesaw to make 4 holes

Used a cutting wheel and grinder to connect the holes
15041642454_10e8d2e2ef_b.jpg

Used spray on stripper to get the bedliner off

This saw horse was happy to support the bumper for me

Then finally color-matched, mounted, and installed/wired the accessories

Don't worry about it, its all good.

Truck is in the shop, rack and lights getting installed. Hopefully they do a good job.

Hey gaterose I've got a Shrockworks bumper coming in within the next month or 2 I was wondering if you'd be interested in helping me put it on my rig and help me wire up the Piaa fog lights and all that fun stuff. I don't have money to pay a shop but I could buy us some beer and go at it lol I've got to get new suspension first thinking icon but Sid seriously appreciate any help! Let me know thanks!

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I was worried about the color-matching but I'm really happy with how it turned out. I think the flat-top bumper makes the color-matching go a little better.

what product did you use to strip the bed liner off?

I just used spray-on paint stripper from Home Depot. A_HuL didn't believe it was gonna work until I sprayed some on, waited a few minutes and he watched it start bubbling up.

I can probably help out with that depending on scheduling. Just shoot me a PM when it's on the way and we'll exchange numbers.

Thanks a lot LOSTR4!

Spent the weekend in the Gatlinburg area, was hoping to get some nice foliage shots but instead we got snowed in at our cabin with no power. We were only expecting a dusting, I think we got over a foot.

Saturday morning after the storm was well underway

Some of the ice thawed and the power company moved the tree so we finally got out Sunday morning

Here are some pictures, from around the cabin.

It's incredible you have snow and the Rockies are just starting to get some. Beautiful place to have no power and be blocked in my fallen trees! That bumper color and skid changed everything on your ride...looking sharp!

gaterose, i have some golf balls in the red circled area!! It was a beautiful weekend up in these parts! I live about 45 minutes from that area. Holler at us East TNers if you come back. Nov usually doesn't start off this way, hopefully that means i can to play in a lot more white stuff this winter.

Great Pics! Love the Gatlinburg area. Wife and I are counting the days that we can move to NC.

We were actually supposed to be at a wedding in Knoxville on Saturday, but the road out was closed and without power the girls couldn't get ready.

I will have to keep you in mind next time I'm up that way, didn't realize how close Knoxville and Gatlinburg are!

did the moog fj 4x4 springs do a good job with the extra weight? I haven't figured out what kind of supsension to go with when I get a bumper and I'd much rather keep my bilsteins and swap the coils to beefier ones. Also how did you got about color matching your bumper? (Did you do it yourself, spray/paint)
