gaterose build thread

That thing is looking good! Did you do the rims yourself or have someone do them? And how much $ did it take? I love the gunmetal and want to steal the idea for mine haha.

Thanks! I'm happy with it. I had the rims powdercoated "iron gunmetal glimmer" by a local powdercoater. He charged $200 to sandblast & powdercoat them, another place wanted $440. I bought the wheels from a member here for $320 so I've got $520 in them altogether.

Man that thing is looking really really nice!! Did you sell your Yakima roof rack??? Next time you head out that way you need to let me know! I have always wanted to go and check out Colorado.

Thanks, no I took the rack off for my trip out west to save gas since I wasn't carrying bikes or anything that needed to be up there. It's sitting in my garage, I'll put it back on when it's biking weather again

Hopefully I'm going back sometime in June or late May, it's a beautiful state.

Waiting for install in the morning (if I can wait til morning...)

The 4Runner's looking good, Matt! I love the stance and the color scheme... the little red accents tie it all together. Nice job!

Thanks Doozi! I just thought there was too much white when I got it so I figured the red would spice it up

Did a little more work, thought I'd show it off.. Mostly electrical.

First of all I added the '06 projector housings, did the squirrel finder mod, and put in a Philips 6000K HID kit

I got a good deal on some PIAA 520 SMRs from a member here so I put those on my light bar and threw the PIAA 510s on the back of the rack for backup lamps. I don't have any pics of either of those during the day time right now. I'll post em up when I finish up the '06 Satoshi grille.

I added 4 KC 26 Long Range lamps to the front of the roof rack and switched the KC bulbs for Hella Optilux 100W bulbs. The fairing has a "hinge" so it fold up and down to cover the lights when I don't want em on. When I need em I can reach through the sun roof and pull it down. It also acts as a shield so I don't light the roof/hood up when they're on.

And with all this lighting my hood was getting really crowded so I decided to build this platform from some plexiglass I had. I mounted my blue sea fuse box, 2 PIAA relays, and roof KC relays. Now everything is secure and tidy under the hood. No before shots, it wasn't dangerous but it wasn't very clean either.

Here is the output:

Highs (with PIAA Xtreme White Plus 9005 high beam)

Everything (4 front PIAAs and 4 100W HellaKCs). The pics don't really do it justice but you can get a sense.

Backup (PIAA 510 and Factory reverse w/ PIAA Xtreme White Plus bulb)

Lastly I got some new SuperBrightLEDs SWFLS Waterproof Flexible Light Strips for puddle/running board lights. I used one 39" strip and cut it into two 10" (front) and two 9" (rear) strips. Two of the cheap ones I got from eBay went out; these were only about $15 more but are a little shorter than the others and the quality seems MUCH better.

I love all of the lights! Looks great! Lighting may be my next mod. I feel like a 4Runner junky... thanks to this forum!! ;-)

Thanks guys! I really love the way it's looking..

Yeah I like a lot of light hahah, I have it now!

I just gotta finish the satoshi and save up for a few more things and I think I'll be done and can just drive it for a while

Yeah I know.. that was just a lie but I can try!

Nah, the yakima fairing folds down (the lights are behind it) and acts as a shield to stop hood wash. You can see in the picture of everything lit up that the hood is still solid black but there is a ton of glare on the fairing (right below the roof lights).

I think the hood would get lit up if not for that but they are long range lights and throw most of their light way down the road.

Thanks!

I will hopefully be in t-town for the A-day game, but I can't say for certain. Give me a shout here or FB and we'll meet up if I am.

Made a few changes since the last updated pics so I figured I'd post some more.

A few of you may have read seen my thread about upgrading to an '06 SE 4x4, but I decided to keep this one because, despite 146K, I know where it's been and how it has been treated. Also if I bought a newer one I dunno if I could afford car payments and buying parts to get it where this one is, since this one is paid for and a lot of things would have to go with it.

Anyway on to the pics, I got bored and went to Flagg Mountain, (Weogufka, AL) the first peak of the App Trail to top 1,000 ft. (weak, right?). It wasn't very exciting but there were a few cool views. I decided to snap some pics of the 4runner since I had the camera and it was nice out.

Since updating I've added the 520 SMR driving lights to the light bar, blacked out the fog/turns, and installed some cheap reverse lights with PIAA bulbs. The reverse lights are weak and will get replaced soon enough. I also took off the nerf bars, hopefully I'll get some sliders in the next month or so.
