gaterose build thread

Thoughts on ride?

the front is about the same as stock but a little stiffer. The back isn't a lot stiffer than the FJ springs but they feel good with the extra weight I have back there.

You think you can fit 285's up front? It looks a little tight already.

Definitely not until I get the adjustable COs. I mentioned that before the pics but forgot to say it when I said UCAs & 285s.

Could you not have gone with the FJ coils up front and the 5100s to get about 2.5+" over stock? Maybe I missed something in the details.

It's still a good bit higher than stock, the back is just so high it's hard to see. It's actually a bit higher now than before.

Yeah it would be a lot higher with FJ springs, but as I said I want to sell the FJ springs for COs so I may as well just pull it all at once then sell it and put the COs in.

Gotcha, just making sure I understood. Can't wait to see how you like the COs when you get them...

Okay I didn't read the whole tread and I should, but I don't have time now. How much was the gobi rack. I have the yakima you had and that gobi is sick. Also where did you get the FJ light switches?

Thanks

Would you be will to help install for a little bit of cash? I have been saving and install price is a killer.
I might be able to, it depends on where you want to do it & what tools are available.

I got the FJ switches from TRDsparks.com. I got the Gobi rack as part of a group buy and it was a lot...

It's going to look great with the new front CO on, well done Matt!
Thanks, I can't wait! Especially now that it's so unlevel! Hopefully someone will buy my FJ coils soon so I can get the COs sooner rather than later.

This grille is siiick....Where did you get the TOYOTA emblem?

Thanks!

As for the Defiant bar, I love it; if you're looking for a light bar I highly recommend it. They space it for the specific lights you're going to use; unfortunately mine was set up for PIAA 510s and 580s so I had to drill new holes when I got the 520s but you can't really tell and it works just as well. It's very strong; strong enough to stand on & bounce the suspension easily, I do it all the time because my friends don't believe that little bar will support my full weight.

Yeah, you gotta pay to play lol... I like the extra strength, my girlfriend (and other friends) and I can sit on the roof now at sporting events or other events. It is also larger (floor area), more low profile, and MUCH better looking (IMO) than the other options in my opinion. The MegaWarrior with extension is almost $500 and not nearly as strong, although I agree it does look good too.

maybe a newbie question but what exactly did you do to get that kind of grille? any advice on how to do that?
A decent bit of work... I cut everything inside the outer frame out, shortened the metal subframe to fit right, used fiberglass & bondo to strengthen the plastic frame, and repainted it. It was my first time working with bondo & fiberglass, not difficult but tedious due to sanding and short amount of time you have to work with bondo & fiber glass before it hardens.

I made the black grille from expanded metal I got on Amazon then shaped to fit inside the plastic frame using a rubber mallet and a 2x4. Then I attached the FJ40 badge.

edit: if you search here, and on google, for "Satoshi Grille" you will find a lot more info, but not a lot that is 4th gen 4runner specific.

edit- also here is an updated shot of my cargo/sub box

and new tripod mount (can be adapted to hold several other things)

Thanks a lot, just trying to make things function better for me... You're welcome, any thing else I can help you with feel free to ask.

great job, I love the LEDS, looks sick
Thanks a lot! I'm actually in the process of changing the rock lights to the same strips I have under the doors because I don't like the bluish color (or not matching).

Thanks!

Gaterose: love the satoshi grill especially on white, which is the color of mine. Curious: What makes it a satoshi? The satoshi link makes it looks like a home depot DIY project. I would love to put that look on mine; is it strictly a DIY project or can you buy the grill pre made and ready for install?
Thanks for any insight!!
