General Grabber AT2 vs X3

Hi everyone. Just looking for quick thoughts on which tire people would buy.

General Grabber AT2 (265/70R17 121Q) = $644.00 for set of 4 (Actually looks like I can get them for $574 right now after $70 mail in rebate to General)

General Grabber X3 (265/70R17 121Q) = $743.00 for set of 4

Let me know your vote as I'm looking to buy as soon as possible. Time to replace the stock tires on my 2016 4runner TRD PRO.

How important is gas mileage to you?

AT= more miles per gallon. Sucks in mud
MT= less miles per gallon. Great in mud

Well, depends on how much loss of mileage between the two. Is there anywhere that would let you know about what % mileage you would lose?

You're probably looking at 2 MPG loss with an MT. Both are E load tires so they both have 10 ply sidewalls. The MT's usually have a softer compound so it's much harder to accelerate.

I just switched to a E load 285 tire from an AT 285 D load and I lost about 2.5 MPG's. So from averaging 15.6 to 13.8 is pretty shitt. I'm sure they're great on the dirt but I'm switching back to my AT's once i'm done testing the MT's.

Thanks for the quick reply and thoughts. With the price for the AT2s at $574 I think I'm going to buy them. Besides these are the same tires that Expedition Overland used for several years and loved them. Haven't been able to find any bad reviews on them from anyone so far.

There was a Continental Rep at a local shop that had some X3 samples prior to the release. Looked to be a good design all around. But when they finally released the specs and I saw the weight I couldn't figure out why they were so heavy compared to similar offerings.

Yeah, the 285/70/17 was 70 lbs.

Should have a new set of AT2s installed in the next couple days. Surprised it’s not a more popular tire for our rigs. Crap...just missed the rebate

Get the X3, they at 375$ each in my town..... FML I had the AT2's and they nice but not as badass as the X3's.

You will know what I mean when you see where I live at

They are good tires but they do not have that aggressive look.

I'm on my second set of AT2's. 265/70-17. Mine aren't even C rated but I am absolutely happy with them. I just have to show due diligence for the sidewalls when I'm aired down and wheeling. And as much gear as I've added to this thing I'm thinking it's time to upgrade to the E rating when I replace these.

General should be releasing the successor to the AT2 soon (if not already) called the ATX. Has a similar tread pattern but more aggressive sidewall look.

I have the AT2 in stock size. They were on the 4runner when I bought it. 6k miles on them now and I'm pretty happy with them. I just got done lifting the 4Runner and the new ATX look way more aggressive on the side walls. Not sure if I should wait and run the AT2 down or sell them and get the new ATX in 275 70 17 E's. about $755 delivered to a shop after all discounts through TireBuyer.

Are they available in 255 75 17 instead?

You can get lower weights, LTC load, and that's even for tires with a 3-ply sidewall.

Originally, I wanted LTC Wildpeaks in 275 70 17 but they were not yet available. When I saw the weight of tires in that size vs the same diameter 255 75s I completely lost interest.

AT2 is replaced by the ATx.I have the ATx fantastic tire.For those getting AT2's check the date codes on them before buying them as they are a discontinued tire.

TireBuyers is not showing one in that size (255 75 17) but does have it in a 245 75 17 only in E load. I wish they would show the weights on there specs.

I think that size is basically the same as 265 70 for most tires. It is pricier than 255 75.

It is 50.5lb in 245 at 31.5":
It is 48.5 and 31.8" in 235 80 17

I am not sure how it would drive in 235 80 but I bet an E load rating would be fitting with so much sidewall/better be stiff.

+1 for the Grabber AT/X. Have them in the T4R stock size (E rating) and love them!
