Generator Power to House Question

I don’t need a transfer switch b/c our power outages are typically infrequent and short and we only need the fridge and a few other things running. A heavy duty cable with 4 outlets works fine. The issue is having to run the cable through a window or door.

Can I just install one of these (or similar) on my exterior basement wall? Generator plugs in outside, extension cords inside, problem solved.

Your idea will work fine....except I would find a more heavy duty version of that item....it's only made of 14 gauge wire, it's a known fact that the longer the run of the electric circuit the more power loss there is and also the possibility of overheating, and the smaller the wire the more this is an issue, so I would try and find that item made of 12 gauge wire and also the same gauge for the extension cord, which should be as short as possible to make the run.
