Getting ready to take my 4Runner on it's 1st road trip

Good morning everyone,

I have 2013 4Runner SR5 with about 2200 miles on it. I am getting ready to take it on the first road/hunting trip of about 500 miles round trip. At my destination there will be some offroading area and all dirt roads.

Wondering if anyone has some good tips on how to really break in the engine and suspension to further the life of the vehicle? It is still stock everything, FYI.

At 2,200 miles your engine should be pretty much broken in, I think you can consider it done.

And suspension, you don't break it in, you just break it and that's a bad thing! :-D

Looks like you are good to go; I would get a compressor or CO2 tank and tire deflators to air down to 18 to 20 for the dirt roads. That helps soften the ride and may be easier on the tires too.

Hah funny! I just got back, yesterday, from my first road trip (1480 miles on the ODO)... and it was to Idaho! Nothing burly but mud/snow/rain/dirt and of course 5.5 hours of pavement each way

There is no break in period, did you :rtfm:? Also no need to air down for dirt roads. No need for anything special at all so just enjoy the ride.

Just be aware that your stock tires wont be the best off road. I would try to avoid mud if possible.... honestly though, when I took mine off road with 3k miles on it, the tires didn't matter one bit. I was not about to put my shiny new toy into any situation that might result in even the smallest scratch lol Have a good trip, and post some friggin pics.
