GM 6.2 Diesel Engine

My daughter just purchased an early 80's GMC G30 class B+ motorhome with a 6.2l V8 diesel engine. OK, I can handle all of the basic mechanical stuff necessary to resurrect an old and neglected vehicle (brakes, shocks, air bags, some electrical, etc) and most stuff with a gas burning engine, but I have never wrenched on a diesel before. These things were built for some time so I gotta think parts are plentiful, but any advice specific to work on a demon-fuel motor? It only has 61,000 miles on it so I would think it would be good for quite a bit more, but not knowing when it was last run I don't want to tell her to just check the oil and fire it up. God knows how she is going to get it home :nono:

This is an old school Detroit Diesel, not the Duramax. That site has a subforum for it, but it's kind of dead.

Yeah, that was what I found, too so I was hoping there was more info/help somewhere else. I am probably making too much of the differences between gas & diesel, but I know she doesn't have a pot to piss in so I won't have the leeway to spend what I need to make mistakes and figure it out (not that my projects are flush with cash).
