I ordered my Gobi rack back I think first of June.. It took a while longer than expected, BUT, it was well worth the wait. I received it today and it was packed with care and there were some "gifts" due to the amount of time it took. I mean, you would've thought I was shipped eggs. As I unboxed it, the craftmanship began to stand out. I know it's a roof rack, but I have to admit, there was nothing left out of the details. I got the "stealth" version.. I also got several accessories.. Looking forward to loading up the canoe and getting some great use out of it..

Screw Gobi.

To remind anyone that is a potential customer:

My favorite part was when they made fake profiles and tried to cover it all up and lie to us.
While this is my sentiment as well, your delivery doesn't really help and for people new to the forum and that issue and how it unfolded people will simply dismiss your thoughts and the case based on the actions of a few.

Yep it's sad, there's never really been anything we could do to help. In the end Gobi will get what they wanted and all will be forgotten. I haven't mentioned it for a while but figured it was time to be brought up again. :biggrin1: stir the pot a little. You had a lot of input on the topic Wadle, and obviously you have not forgotten anything that happened, but have you decided not to speak out about it anymore? What approach are you taking with the subject these days?

I can understand what you mean about my delivery. Honestly wasn't trying to attack the OP, didn't even see that he/she was a new member. Just jumped at the opportunity to be the first response. Nothing against you OP. Glad you are modding your rig and there's nothing wrong with posting your good experiences with a company. I've just been tainted, and have strong negative feelings towards Gobi.

A similar thing happened to BajaRacks about their ladders. GOBI tried to sue for patent infringement and it took forever for them to get it sorted out.

I'm happy to report BR is now selling and delivering their ladders, so I'm assuming they either changed the design enough or settled out of court somehow.

Gobi can suck a bag of dlcks.

OP comments sound either paid for or another fake account. no harshness meant if its not true, just saying...

From the suggestion of a buddy, I was told that most local fabricators can make a decent rack if they have something to go off of. Some former rack fabricators would probably have no problem if you copied their rack, particularly since they don't make them anymore.

Have to admit, the first post smelled a bit of planted advertising... I immediately thought of what they did to Baja and WMW.

In my eyes that's stained their company's reputation and credibility enough that I will not be buying or recommending their products in the foreseeable future.

Additionally don't they still have rust issues with their racks and poor powder coating? We had a stealth rack installed on a LC200 earlier in the year and it came shipped with bad powder coating in a couple spots.

I have been trying to reach ANYONE at GOBI for the past few weeks with no success. I ordered awning mounts for my Stealth rack back on November 3rd (paid on November 18th and figured they would ship soon there after). Was told the lead time was 10 days.

Well almost 30 days later and I can't even get a email replied to letting me what is going on. Phone calls go unanswered and messages not replied too.

More and more I am thinking about getting a Prinsu rack.

Any update on this?

I just read that linked thread and having gone through the process for both a utility and a process patent AND having been on the receiving end of a lawsuit that was clearly harassment, I wouldn't judge a company that tries to protect it's intellectual property.

It costs, on avg, close to $1 mil (from belonging to end) to sue someone for patent infringement. It also costs approximately the same to defend against one.

Unless you're a monster company, nobody wants lawyers to get that money for something that can easily be worked out with a licensing agreement.

I recently purchased a Gobi and don't think that thread would have swayed me one way or another.

Knowing.they have poor customer service would have.

Anyway, just my $.02

It really wasn't the defense of the patent that was the central issue. It was the shady and very underhanded way that Gobi went about it. Additionally it was also their very shady attempt at "damage control" by making fake accounts on the forum and trying to manipulate the forum that really got many of us sharpening our pitchforks so to speak. It just became more and more obvious that this company's ethics and morals weren't as expected and they suffered for it.

At least on this forum for a lot of the people who were around for that it's left a black mark on Gobi, one that will probably not go away for a long time without a lot of effort on their part to prove they aren't as bad a company as they acted like during that point in time.
