GOBI Roof Rack *Group Buy* Winter 2016

I'm so glad I didn't jump on this GB. The way they handle it is deplorable.

Just got a Frontrunner custom rack installed today, great company, I highly recommend!

Do you guys have any way to do something about this situation?

Laaawl there is no situation just a bunch of people throwing their money knowing full well what would happen. It isn't the mods fault you guys wanted a discounted price on a rack that you just can't wait for, it's yours.

It sounds like people weren't aware that GOBI was going change the date of shipping date and ready date multiple times going well beyond the original allotted time frame. But yes people do keep throwing money at them for some reason.

A: I did not participate, I bought from a different company. I prefer the FRO or BajaRack compared to the Gobi.

B: Apparently the delivery date was postponed many times, and reaching them is hard. I don't think it is good business practice.

C: I participated in a couple group buys, all went super smoothly, even some made-to-order stuff like the Shrockworks products. So, yes, some people like me can use a discount... doesn't mean the company should treat us like sh*t. FYI, companies like Gobi they don't do GBs as a charitable action, they do it because it's profitable.

So I will be adding Rigid lights to the rear of the rack along with the Rigid 40" Bar up front. I am wondering a couple things for those of you that have already installed the lights:

thanks aspec44 I've been wondering the same thing but unable to get a good answer.

I'm running two Rigid 6" lights on the rear of mine, and I was able to discreetly run the wires underneath the rack where they aren't exposed. They also fit in the drain along the side of the window with no issues.

So the rack got to the house around 5pm. I started working on it around 6pm and finally finished with the Rack, Ladder & Lightbar. All in all it was a pretty simple install although I think I am going to come up with a better way to route the Rigid wires as they are not very snug under the windshield molding and I have a piece of electrical tape keeping everything in place. Doesn't look horrible, but my OCD won't stand for it.

My Rigid rear lights come in tomorrow and I'll get those wired up by Friday. I'm too tired and had one too many rum/cokes to take a bunch of glamor shots, but will be sure to get some up north this weekend.

#151 and Gobi says it should be done next week. Anyone else with a 2002?? I cant get a straight answer on if I was supposed to get a 3rd gen or 4th gen rack. Trail Duty asked me for a photo of the rear of my 4Runner when I ordered as that is how Gobi is able to tell.

#181 on the list (dead last). I called a couple months ago and after multiple times of trying to get a hold of someone (during their business hours), finally decided to leave a message with all contact info etc. Never heard back. Called again Friday May 12th and was told they would call or email me later that afternoon or Monday with an order status - never heard back. Emailed them today via their website contact form and said if it's not shipping in a couple weeks to go ahead and cancel the order. It's been 16 weeks and I am tired of waiting. At this rate it will probably be over a year before I get it.

I had a similar experience with regard to Gobi's lack of communication. I placed my order in late December and got shipping confirmation two weeks ago (May 15th), finally got a call from the cargo company and they are delivering it this week. Try and stay patient, they are slowly but surely fulfilling orders.

Mine took 24 weeks.
While it was very frustrating not having it during a couple of recent trips & events, I wouldn't give up yet.

Not holding my breath, but...

"WE HAVE RECEIVED YOUR
STATUS UPDATE REQUEST!
Your approximate ship date is: _GETTING PACKED RELEASING NEXT WEEK _______
Once your GOBI Rack has shipped, you will receive another email about
additional shipping details and the delivery process."

Rack arrived Friday late. Damn, that's a big box!

I tore into it on Saturday and got the whole thing installed, other than the wind deflector. That should go on tonight.

Install was pretty straightforward, thanks to decent instructions and the stuff on this site.

I'll add that I like the rack. I am happy it is on the roof, it will no doubt come in very handy. BUT...the wait and poor communication have soured me on the brand.

Had I known I'd have a >5 month wait, I would have gone another route.

#177 received and installed today. 5 months.

Impressed by their packaging it was perfectly organized and protected. Build quality is superb. I even updated my order after 6 weeks to no rise and they got that right too.

GOBI now has this statement on their website:

"The GOBI office is experiencing technical issues with phone/internet connection. We apologize for the inconvenience & will get back to you as soon as possible."

So now they have an excuse for not returning anyone's calls/e-mails :bravo:

Baha. . .the only technical issues is how they run the office. Seems more like a user problem and not necessarily a system problem

They still aren't responding to my calls and emails about my replacement sunroof insert since they sent me a damaged one. It's been over a month since I tried contacted them about it. Worse customer service ever!

Will eventually provide pics, but the Gobi is finally on, and it looks awesome.
Even with 3 people it was a bit of work to install - even the fairing/deflector - and we even managed to snap a couple of chinese-made bolts.
