GOBI Roof Rack *Group Buy* Winter 2016

Update

Well I got a call Friday from a freight company in Seattle (I'm in eastern wa) saying the driver would be over my way by 5-7. I was stoked. Guy brought it down from the truck (last box in there for the day), we pushed it in my garage, I signed for it, and he was off. Oddly I noticed there were two labels on it, various sharpie marks, a couple different shipping companies names, etc. some had my name and some had another guys name (from Oregon). I figured this had something to do with freight shipping and maybe they shipped it to a guy/company in Oregon first and then it got shipped here.

Spent a bunch of time disassembling the very well packed box, stripping off all the plastic wrap, and breaking down cardboard. I first noticed my free group buy items were not there - ratchet / tie down strap system and gas struts. Then I see started looking at some of the labels, internal packing slips, etc and I see.... "2017 jeep Cherokee". Oh shit.

**TO BE CLEAR THIS WAS NOT GOBI'S FAULT**

Looks like they freight shipped both racks to Washington state where some sub contracted freight shipper brought it to me. It appears that company must have switched labels and put another label with my name on this guys rack box. Gobi has been responsive as far as tracking down what happened and fixing this - even this weekend. They've called and emailed me a few times today. They are trying to track down where my rack is. Not sure what they are going to do with this guys rack yet. I do not have the means to pack this thing back up. I've also been in contact with him to let him know what's gljng on.

The freight company came back to get this rack. They just set it unboxed up against the side of the semi, threw all the accessories in the ladder box, set cardboard up against it, and ratchet strapped it in.

The Oregon Jeep guy said Gobi is building him a new rack and is shipping it out this week.

Still have not heard if they have found mine. The shipping company and Gobi have been in contact saying they are still looking.

please check every square inch of your rack and ladder.


My ladder had blemishes from when it was power coated. It does not look like it was from the packaging. I emailed GOBI June 6 and have yet to receive a response.

I'm excited I got the email last week on Wednesday that it was shipping and it finally arrived today. So, I'll be working on putting it together with my friend this weekend just in time for my vacation this weekend to Vegas for the 4th of July and in two weeks. It was a long wait but well worth it. Thanks Gobi.

I am curious, when you total a modified vehicle like that, do you submit that as part of the insurance claim or did you just get reimbursed for the cost of the stock vehicle? If you did just for the stock price, did you try to salvage what you could off of it to resell?

i have travelers, the adjuster used to be a body guy and said they pay out the most. I have receipts for everything. the partially paid-out for the suspension. He included a new rack into the estimate which help it get to the totaled price. Wish I could've got the skid off. He wasn't going to give any money for the lights as the company said those mods are "personal preference" So I took those off. The sliders were included in the value as well. If I had to do it all over again I would have had it towed to my house and taken everything off. The salvage yard can deny you doing anything to your vehicle. Even though you still own it.. it sucks. I have a brand new bfg all terrain spare on also, I would have been a pain selling the parts myself and shipping was not a options as those things are heavy. but in the end of the day I made out good. They gave me 33,000. I paid 37 for it brand new 4 years and 55,000 miles ago. I wish they fixed it but it would have never been the same. The gobi took a huge hit from a large tree that landed on it. only dented the roof a bit. My wife would have been a lot worse off if the rack wasnt there. the windshield would have smashed and curtain air bags would have went off. I miss the runner everyday

On the 6 month anniversary of ordering the rack, it finally arrived! Can't wait to install this weekend. I'm sure it will be well worth the wait!

Second to last on the list at #180. Ordered through trailduty and received my rack today. Took 170 days from date of purchase of 1/9/17. Was given mulitple dates(April-June) for shipment. I'm just glad I got it.

depends on your urgency. if you wait for a group buy(if one even happens again) and shipping it could be a year before you get it. Plus gobi is raising their prices in July so group buy might only bring it down to current regular price.

#162 received today. Rack received as ordered, build quality looks good. Still a little sour taste from the overall experience in dealing with Gobi but look forward to using the rack. Installing Sunday, will upload photos then.

Just spent most of the day installing my rack after it was delivered this morning. Didn't see the part in the directions abou having the front of the rack 3.25" off the roof. Mine is about 2.75-3". I don't see why it would make a difference. Should I move it up? Does it have to do with the windscreen ( have not installed yet)?

Long wait for this thing- glad it's finally here!

Not sure which package you decided to go with but my calculations put this group buy ahead of the 10% off Trail Duty is offering if you went with package #1 (not including the free accessory), when you factor in the free accessory which was offered, the group buy steps further ahead of the 10% discount. Thanks again for organizing this jicko! Also, they were saying GOBI was going to raise prices back in January and the Stealth 5th Gen rack has stayed the same price (not sure if that means anything).

That said, 10% off is pretty good if you don't want to wait for another group buy.

Well, here it is:

I went with package 1 and opted for the "no rise" option instead of an accessory. I have yet to install the ladder but will get to that at some point.
