Going to look at a 2007 4runner tomorrow.

It has 199,000. What should I look for? Being the Midwest, of course there is always the body and frame rust possibility. There does not seem to be head gasket issues for 2007. No radiator problems. Just ball joints? The dealership that has the vehicle sold it new and I would like to see the service records. I have not asked asking price. I would like to see $10,500.

Am I crazy for even looking a such a high milage 4runner? I know they can go much farther with good maintenance.

wait 10 grand for a 4runner with about 200k? you can find one here in the east coast for that amount of money with way less miles.
 
If you have the VIN of the vehicle, you can input it on Toyota's website and see the Dealer service history. Very useful buying tool (assuming vehicle was serviced at the dealer).

THAT is a deal. I paid $14,250 for my '08 with 81K over the summer. Private party, and the guy insisted on being paid like Pablo Escobar -- all cash. Then again, I live in MN and they fetch a premium here.
 
Price aside, I have a 2007 with about 100k and the issues I've had with mine include the warped rotors, rust around the lip of sunroof under the seal, and I just split a cv boot. You'll want to check the different 4wd modes if it is 4wd and make sure they engage properly. Then, I'd say the rest is just general used car stuff-how does it drive and general appearance. My truck was originally purchased in st. Louis and then I bought it in Seattle a couple years ago. It spent last winter in Minnesota, except for the sunroof rust (i believe a manufacturer error of some sort) mine is "rust free".

i believe in the midwest the prices for automobiles is much higher than here out east.
mine is rust less, the awd works fine, only issue i had was blown light bulbs for the climate control which were dumb cheap. Mine was originally from NJ and i am the second owner.
 
Yeah, they generally don't come cheap. Mine was 1 owner too, and didn't have the sunroof option (a preference of mine to avoid issues).
 
Went to look at it. It was a sr5 sport. 196000 miles. Everything worked as it should. There was a rear wheel bearing noise. Sounded like right rear. The tire pressure light was on. Really was a decent vehicle, but could not get to a price on my trade so I am trying to sell my Chevrolet now. Thanks for the help.

Once you get them down as low as they will possibly go and you are good with the deal, act like you aren't sure :eyebrows:. Maybe tell them you'll think about it, then tell them you will take it if they throw in some new weathertech floormats or a kayak rack or something or maybe 5 or 10 free oil changes. I've never had this fail me.

when they get it as low as you want, they'll call the manager and he'll present himself as a big shot, just act a little iffy, maybe even tell them you are gonna go check out other dealers that may have a similar car. I even walked towards the door and thats when he stopped and me and lowered the price a bit more. lol
 
Worked all day, but got them where I wanted. 2007 SR5 Sport. Sunroof, cloth interior. Clean. Sold and serviced at the dealer with no accidents. Miles are high, 195000, but religiously serviced every 3000 miles. Needs a few things but we are happy.

Congrats!
I got an '05 sport v6 2wd 170k for $5500 a few months back and it sure doesn't feel like it has all those miles - these runners sure do age well
