New to the 4RNR world
Just acquired my first 4Runner a few weeks back. Shopping on craigslist for a new-to-me ride. Saw this one ad and did a little research and figured a 4Runner would suit my needs. It's a '91, white w/ blue interior. When I first test drove it I was thinking "it could use a little work". Never been in an accident, no pieces missing and it ran. You can tell that I wasn't very picky. The A/C was cold so I drove it back home, roughly 300 miles. The entire trip was a little nerve racking. Any little noise perked my ears something fierce. I just want to make it home without any crazy stories to tell. Long story short .... I made it. Next day I took it in and had it checked out at PEP Boys, yup ... I'm a PB fan. I told them to do-it to-it. Tune-up, oil change, check brakes, check trans etc etc. By 5:00 that day, it was all done. New (not rblt) starter and alternator. Old plugs looked rather nice, all cylinders were firing even and well. Off to a stereo shop for a new unit and all new speakers. So yeah, I paid to have it all done ... I'm getting too old to "wrench" anymore. Lastly, the check engine lite was off and on so I took it to Toyota and had them check it. I really hated to do that. 4 hours later I called and the service rep says"Oh yeah, we got it right here. It will be $550 plus the $106 inspection. Want us to start right away?" ... I sez no, I'll be there to pick it up. The EGR needs to be cleaned/replaced. Thanks to all you fine folks, I think I'll do it myself. But I'm thinking a new replacement would be best. I'm not made of money but sometimes a penny-saved is me getting stuck in the desert somewhere.
