Good Year Duratrac vibration, tire shop has ballance them 4 times now

reading this thread makes me feel a bit lucky that discount tire got it right the 1st time on my runner- duratracs have been great for 30k so far

Got Duratracs from Discount Tire as well. Truck had 100 miles on it. They nailed the balance right out of the gate. They did get them Directly from Goodyear though fwiw. I believe that DT only does Road Force balance.

Pulled all the brakes apart last night and checked for frozen calipers, tried rotating the tires to see if it changed, checked all the suspension (bushings, shocks, ball joints and all that) greased the drive shafts, changed the diff and transfer case fluids and checked wheel bearings just to be sure everything is good, although this issues started when the new tires were put on so I was doubtful there was anything wrong. Called the dealer and they actually recommend the same discount tire I went to, and said when they have ballance issues they actually send the tires to them. Really wanna keep the Duratracs, but u guess not gunna happen. Leaning towards the Ko2, just hate the mpg hit I'll likely take even though it's small. Oh well, cost of playing I suppose

why would there be a MPG hit?
its a less aggressive tire. and honestly, likely better for your described use.

I have used Discount tire for 15 years on different cars, and even use them for our company cars now too. Always been great, and honestly I can't say anything bad about this time either. They keep trying to make it right and that's all I care about. The people at Goodyear and Discount both said the same thing, it's likely just not the right tire for my set up and its causing vibrations even when the wheel is 100% balanced. I know everyone runs Duratracs on there 4Runner. I would be interested to hear from someone running 265 65 18 specifically. From what Discount and Goodyear told me the size can matter, even on the same truck with the same tire. I know people run them in 17" wheel, and stock size on the 18" rim all the time with no issues.

Hopefully the Ko2 will work better. I am guessing ill take a MPG hit over this as its 7lbs heavier per tire. Im sure it wont be huge though. Who knows maybe the slightly less aggressive tread will make it a wash out.

Well, got the Ko2 installed today. They road force ballance them and everything. Tires have half the weights of Duratracs, half the run out and drive incredibly smooth. Definitely stuffer side walls, but no more vibrating

glad you got your problem solved. Those are nice tires, almost ended up with them myself but went with duratracs. Would have been happy either way.
