Good bye to an old friend.

Well after 18 years and 531,000 kms (329,000 miles) I sold her. With my previous 1st Gen '88, I've racked up almost a million kms in 4Runners.

Spent all day Saturday cleaning and detailing.

The new owner also is a 4Runner owner although he has a'97 4 cylinder unit that is totally rusted out. His looked like it was shot up with a 50 cal. and was really excited to get mine.

The final straw for me was a rear upper control arm bracket breaking but the new owner has a welder to fix that for him. A few rust spots were appearing under door seals & such but otherwise, mines pretty good. Body is mint as you can see.

I've picked up a 4th Gen Ltd and am switching over. 180,000kms (111,000 miles) owned by a retired guy. Extremely clean and he just picked up a 5th Gen. Let the learning and mods begin .....

I also graduated from a 3rd gen to my current 4th gen, and even after five years of ownership I still love my "new" rig.
 
Sweet, looks just like mine. Although I love the rear spoiler on top. I want to get one installed after I do all the new purchase maintenance since I just got mine a week ago.

The spoiler is pretty cool. It's open at the top and redirects air at speed down the rear to help keep the window clear.

They are all the same size aestheticly, the inner pistons on 5th gen are 3mm bigger and so far no issues with piston sticking on 2015 calipers. Reason Insuggested them because his are all rusted just like mine were and I had a sealed piston. So I upgraded to 5th gen and used g2 caliper paint to make them look really nice.

It's a 2006 Ltd. Has pretty much everything but the audio system thank god as my plan is to remove it all and put in a real one.

And yes, i will upgrade to 5th gen brakes

Congrats! I had 2 3rd gens. Anyway, so you want to completely replace the audio system? You have a Limited? Probably the less painful way is to purchase a wiring harness to "bypass" the JBL amp, otherwise you are looking at rerouting all the speaker wires. Not fun.

Congrats on the new " to you" 4th gen. I recently picked up a very clean 4th generation Salsa Red Pearl Sport Edt with only 79k on the ticker. Also have a 3rd gen with 225k miles and can't seem to stop driving it. I need to post up some photos of the 3rd , 4th and 5th (daughters) sitting in my drive as its quite a scene. My youngest daughter now has the Highlander so needless to say we are a Toyota family ( though there are a couple other models there too) I have lots of mods going on the 4th as well, Pwder coated Limited wheels, exhaust, CAI, Neoprene seat covers, tint, leveling kit, spacers, etc.etc Just need the time to take them and post. I'm involved in the industry. Not a fan of the JBL Synthesis system.
It just doesn't sound good. Muted highs, tubby bass.
Although not as crazy as what I had in the 3rd gen, I'll replace everything.

If you're in the business, that's great. All the less "guess work" in gutting out the wiring and system. I agree the JBL isn't the best sounding system, but I'm no audiophile (read: I don't care about fidelity in my car, as long as it sounds good to me, hahhahah............... ah hell, I'll admit it, I'm lazy, LOL).

My 3rd Gen had Tube amplifiers. I won't be so nuts this time but the quality of the audio is directly related to the amount of time one spends in the truck.
